OK, I'm not a newb, but this isn't a hard core question, and anyway I rarely post in tech. :flipoff2:
Dana 300, Tera Low, stock shift setup (85 CJ-7) As everyone knows a 300 can be difficult to shift at times, but just lately it is sometimes VERY difficult to shift into low range. I installed the Tera Low myself around 10K miles ago (7 years ago), have used synthetic in it since the build.
Any ideas, I don't very often get in the mood to do much mechanical work anymore, but I do if I have to. :shaking:

mine does it too but without the 4 to 1 usually i just put it in reverse and try to shift after i push the clutch in and still drifting back if that dont work i put it in first and slipped the clutch slightly to get it in. i usually have more problems getting it out of low gear though

Just built a 231-300 setup in a Wrangler and we did notice that with the 231 in 4lo and the 300 in 4lo that it was hard to shift out of rear wheel low and front dig. Then, shift the rear wheel back in low after the dig. It usually shifts if you're moving a little. Grinds a little bit but it works.

Yeah, like I said 300s have always been hard to shift due to gear bind, but mine has gotten much harder just recently going from hi to low.

I hear ya. Me and a buddy just finished this and tested it this weekend at a private land. So...this has NO trail use yet. Hopefully it wont get any worse.

If it has gotten so much harder to the point of asking here, I would pull it out and check on it. It sucks to do, but that is better than trashing the case.

I just completed (6 months ago) the tera 4:1 install in my Dana 300, I went with twin sticks while it was apart and the stock shifter was giving me the some grief. I "believe" most of shifting problems stem from two things: shifting while in a bind/twist/uneven ground and bent/loose/worn-out/abused shifters. Edit: lockers engaged can help bind up stuff too.
I've had to unlock my front hubs and roll a little to get it to shift. But no problems since the twin stick ..... knock on wood. But I get into low range ASAP and then only shift from 2wd to 4wd.
Sorry I can't give a more exact cause/reason for your problem. You probably know everything I've typed here. But I wouldn't drop it out just to check without some reason to suspect a problems with the install.
Good luck
