This is what I have..... 85 toyota, 88 Mustang 5.0 engine chevy D44 HD front/ ford D60 rear,,,,,,, and here is what I want. NP435 or T-18 and a 205 case behind the 5.0.....the catch is I need a Chevy t-case for my passenger side drop. Can I bolt up a chevy case to the ford tranny. (NP435's also came in chevy's (not a lot of them) ) or do I need an adapter. Ford and chevy obviously run 205's I was just wondering if they have the same output/input splines/bolt pattern. Any help you can give me would be great. Thanks.

One more thing.......what year of tranny do I need to get for the hydraulic clutch (i think 82 +). and what are my best chances of donor vehicles.

Its not neccarrilly what year tranny its what year bellhousing. you will need a '84 to '87 F150 bellhousing... they used external hydrolic slave cylinders.

I don't know what to say to give you any help, but consider that a 205 is much stronger due to the lack of chain drive found in the 203. The 205 does has a weak 4Lo of 1.98, not too crawl friendly, but the NP435 would make it much lower than my c6 does with the 205.

No the Chev/Dodge NP 203/205 wont bolt up(factory like) to ford stuff.
But it can be done easily enough.
I'm putting a Chev NP203 behind my Ford NP435 because I want the shifter on the passenger side. (Ford is on the Dr side)

Two ways to do it:

1) NP205: Get a 85-91 GM NP205 and swap in the Ford 31-spline input. Notch the other side of your adapter for the shift rails. Should work - haven't tried though.

2) NP203: Get a NP435/NP203 from a 70's Dodge. Should be able to build a hybrid NP435 that fits the Ford bellhousing and Dodge 203. Again, should work - haven't tried though.

If you're d44 isn't built yet, ie geared & locked, then you might want to consider selling it and finding a ford d44. Then you wouldn't have to create a bastard child when you don't have to.

Otherwise, I know you can run the dana 300 upside down and it seems that I heard the same about the 205. In fact if you used a dana 300, I'm pretty sure there are adapters to put it behind a NP435.

Even better, it might be all around easier and less expensive to use a sm420 or sm465 and adapt them to the 5.0L. I was doing some reading about this awhile back, and if I remember correctly, some of the old cheby trannys will bolt to a ford bellhousing with simple mods.

If you have the wheel base to do it, the best setup would be a 203 then 205 doubler. Get Ford 203 it will bolt to any Fullsize ford tranny. Then bolt the 205 from a chevy to it, using a ORD doubler setup. Check to be sure but the internals of a 203 should be a 203 no matter who made it.

Or just run a Ford 205 upside down, hell you can do it with a D300 why not a 205.

Never did either of these setups, just random thoughts I had. Make sure to look into a little more. I ditch both ideas since I have all ford parts.

You could probably get an Advanced Adapters kit to run a chevy tranny behind your Ford motor (Chevy SM465 trans). Chevy went to a hydraulic clutch around 1987 so you could use the factory parts. However for the money and results, the Offroad Design doubler would work best. It's an adapter and an additional low range (4:1 reduction) in a single package.
