Anyone out there have a Klune V in their 4banger? I am looking into them and I think it may be a good Idea. Any disagreements? Agreements??

i wouldnt see why it would be a problem seeing as how you are running the same tcase.

these are $$$ units, off-road I can see their use with the 4-banger but it's not going to help you out for the highway power your going to need. Hell you can buy a crate 350 for the price of one:D

On a four banger running 35"+ tires yes they work well. But on a tj with 30" tires? I would say you money is better spent elsewhere.

Steve and I were just talking about this type of situation the other day.

save yourself alot of money and do a teralow kit in the tcase.

You will be able to save some money and drive shaft length.

Just go out and wheel the piss out of your rig the way it is.

You will have money left over to get yourself some bigger tires and maybe a budget bost lift kit or a real lift kit.

I should be getting two tera low kits in some time this week.

One for me and one for my mom.

Happy mothers day.

AMEN. Get some real tires on that thing first, and wheel it, then talk about klune V's.

4cyls are great to install Klune crawlers in. With a little work you can move the motor forward 6" or so to make room for the crawler. You have to mod the center console for the shifter being moved forward but it can be done. Sleeper mod too.....gearing is GREAT....you get to move the motor forward over the axle for better weight distribution, and you still get the stock low for sand and mud.

I say if you have the cash go with the "KluneV",
it is a bit rich, but if you move the four squirrels forward so you can still have a good drive line, you should have the rock crawler from HELL

Ya, thats what I was thinkin. with it I'd have:

all engaged 1st gear: 174:1
all engaged 2nd gear: 103:1
KluneV only in 1st: 66:1
All But Klune on: 44:1

Not too shabby. And I do wheel, as much as I can. Nothing huge, but as good as I can. I would have larger tires, but that would mean I'd have to live with even less power, and I am saving up to do everything at once. Thanks for the advice everyone.

My reason for even looking at a Klune was it will allow the use of almost any xfercase behind the AX-5 but the god awful price doesn't justify it as you can swap trannys and cases cheaper.

I agree, the price is nutz. But then again, So am I. I like the Klune for the same reasons. When I bought my Jeep, (knew zero, now i know twice that much!) someone told me "if you want to wheel in a 4banger, you will need a nice low gear ratio. Well, why not? 174:1 is kinda low.
