stack shocks 2 12" shocks cut shafts...sleeve then weld together. one is upside down, the other is right side up...works okay especially in such a situation.

Will this really work?
It sounds RedNeck!!!!
But then again i painted it J.D. Green!!!

Seriously, No issues about welding that shaft, (ie: Tig)
Probly need 2 shocks at each corner, This could get expensive!!!

Or you could put a 14" travel shock part way up one of the links and get 18" of wheel travel. Just tossing out some ideas

just get the crappy prochumps.

I had thought about mounting on the links but I figured he thought about that so I just went ahead w/ the backyard fix :D my fav!

Your rig doesn't flex enough to need the 12" shocks you have. Man I wish we got a pic of Chevy powa whoopin your ass!:flipoff2:

-On the topic, I would mount a 12 or 14 inch shock on the link, in a location that would allow 18" of wheel travel. The welding idea sounds a little to redneck to me and would have to be done correctly to avoid warping or ????, you then also potentially double your dampening. It could also get tricky mounting a shock that long.

Swayaway makes a 16" and King Kong makes 20"

Sway-A-Way makes an emulsion (no reservoir) 2" shock with 16" of travel.

Another option is to get stiffly valved shocks (or multiples) and use a cantilever/lever system to amplify the effective travel. Put a 12” shock at the center of your links and roughly double their effective travel at the axle. Of course, this also reduces the effectiveness by (roughly) the same factor. The longer the length of the lever/link, the better this works. Short links describe too tight an arc. Or, you can effectively amplify the travel a little by placing the shocks at an angle.

I read the whole thread Phil, just giving you shit. Yes your jeep is running and my truck isn't. I'm sure it's been nice for you to have when you need groceries, that's about the only driving it's done in the last 4-5 months:flipoff2: I'm sure that you're too busy bendin' tube to wheel though. I've been too busy helping friends with their rigs to work on mine, kinda sucks, but it gives me time to get the parts and do everything right on mine, instead of throwing it together than "finishing" it all summer:beer:

It's all in good fun Phil, I know what you mean by trails closing, I need to get my chit back on the road before Bassi and some other places are history, completely. You can come with us on samurai deconstruction day. I'm going to let my room mate destroy the samurai I built for him, trying to follow us, since he's never wheeled (dune buggy, he says) and says that driver ability/experience has nothing to do with it. It's going to be a riot!
