: Lookin for info - Chev 350 into a CJ-8
OrcusOmega 05-05-2002, 11:43 PM Looking to get information together on putting a V-8 into a CJ-8... would like to keep fabrication to a minimum (don't trust my welding yet), but need to get the information together. A buddy of mine just got a CJ-8, good tub, frame, etc, no engine, and he wants to put a 350 in it.
I already got him looking in to SOA D60's :)
Thanks,
BOb

Hehehehe nice try, but no cigar... re-read what I posted, it ain't mine :flipoff2: I own a TJ...
My buddy is NOT Internet savvy at all... so i am trying to save him some aggravation to get the info together. At least the good news I already got him talked into building it RIGHT the first time, D60's. spring over, and 39's :)
Bob

IBGPIN 05-06-2002, 09:26 AM ahh yes,
As long as people keep bastardizing the CJ8's mine being bone stock, keep's getting more desirable...
Thanks:D
lowe1974 05-06-2002, 12:20 PM I did one in mine and It is almost ready to get licensed. For the swap I bought a 77 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 truck and pulled the drive train. I used M.O.R.E. motor mounts and the engine went in perfect. For the tranny mount I modified the one form the chevy and bolted it in the stock location in the frame. I am using the stock exhuast manifolds. I also used the AA hydrualic clutch conversion to replace standard clutch linkage. I might have spent more money on buying stuff but it sure made it easy and I could not have made the motor mounts like the M.O.R.E ones. you can email me if you have more questions. If I was to do it again I would have bought a 1 ton and taken the dana 60 and 14 bolt rear and used them too. Oh and the best thing about having an Stock Cj8 it that you know what exactly you are working with to do your modifications.
DozerDan 05-06-2002, 02:34 PM Do a SEARCH newbie hahahaha sorry bob had to say it.

Dozernad??? LOL I'm gonna remember that on Whompum this season....
And thanks for being a tool :flipoff2: :p :p
jp junkie 05-06-2002, 04:06 PM Cut the old engine mounts off, bolt on the new ones redrill the skid plate for the tc's new location, fire it up and go.:) Make sure you don't set the engine too far back or forward.:smokin:
websurfshop 05-06-2002, 08:59 PM I am doing this conversion a second time [same CJ7]. I bought my motor mounts from advance adapters out of Paso Robles, CA. They work pretty good.
I have a 1987 EFI 350 Complete running and wired with a stock blazer harness in the CJ now [well acutally I just took it all out out in one piece:)], sm420, and a sm420 to dana 300 adapter, model 20 with mosier axles [narrow track]. Not sure what I can get for them. I am swapping in a 96 vortec/4L60E and upgrading my axles.
I would have to say the wiring is the hardest part, and most guys think they know how to do it, but the computer always sets codes until you get it really right. It will set you back about $1G to have someone wire it for you including parts/harness [if you want fuel injection].
You really just have to put it in[350, take off the front fenders], center it [or slightly offset to pass the clutch linkage], tilt the motor down in the rear a little by lowering the cross-member about one inch. Keep the distributor about 2" away from the firewall in the rear. And weld the motor mounts flush with the top of the frame [novak or advanced adapters, they have bolt on, but you should weld one side at least]. Hook all the good stuffup and try to keep the rubber side down.
84scrambler 05-07-2002, 11:56 AM I did a vortec V6 swap in mine. Used MORE motor mounts(really nice), mepco radiator(going to get a be cool one soon), black magic fan, harness from HOWEL, napa fuel pump, custom cross member for tranny, advance adapters for tranny to transfercase and the rest is miscelanious crap from the parts store. Nice thing with a V6, you get about two hundred less pounds in your front end, alot of room to work because of how much smaller it is, no smog pump, and passing smog was a breeze. It also has 200hp and 260 foot lbs of torque. And you can always bump it up later with some sort of forced induction or internal mods to get it to push 400hp.
FULLSIZE 05-07-2002, 09:21 PM how did the black magic fan work? did you build a shroud?
84scrambler 05-07-2002, 10:51 PM It comes with a shroud covers probably about 75% of the radiator besides that I like it alot. Solved my overheating problems that my other fan couldnt. Had to modify there universal bracket slightly because it poke to far out.
