What all is involved in converting a d60 from a '79 F-250 to 35 spline shafts? I plan to go with a Detriot in the rear. I figured I may as well go 35 spline while I'm at it. Sorry for the newbish question. :D

Bore your spindles out... Randy's ring and pinion sells the tool.

Thanks for the help. Is that pretty much it, carrier and spindles?

Pretty much.

35spl. carrier/locker
35 spl. shafts
bore out spindles

Check around some shops before you go dropping that money on a tool that you'll use once. Some places can do it fairly cheap, it cost me 200 to get mine done, and that was high compared to what some people have paid.

I know some guys that work at machine shops, I could probably get it done at a failry cheap price. How do I go about figuring what to bore them out to?

It should be bored out to 1.630, same ID as a D70.

I would not recommend this on a 79 rear. Here's why:

Your axle has 2 small bearings for the hub, as in, the inner bearing is the same size as the outer bearing.

If you compair this to a 14bolt or a D70, the hub uses a larger inside diameter inner bearing which allows the spindle to taper out where the inner bearing sits.

When you bore that D60 spindle, where the inner bearing sits against the shoulder of the spindle will be very thin.

i've done a couple and the tool i use the bit is 1.540. and it takes a buttload of time to do it. the randys tool works ok, but the bit chatters and if its not on tight the tool fills up with chips and siezes on the spindle. Other than that it works out fine
