OK i took a prelimenary measurement the other day after i swapped in my D44. I am going to run MORE shock hoops. If I weld my lower mounts on similar to the stock waggy mounts on the axle my shocks at normal ride height will be around 28-29". Looking at the specs on the DT site, they only make a shock thats 32" fully extended. I tried to find specs on the rancho site but just found apps not lengths.
Here are my questions:
What length shocks are you guys running with a SOA and lift springs(mine are old RE 2.5" well broken in)?
Should I attach my lower mounts to the spring plate instead of the axle tube?
Any thoughts? Thanks
(EDIT) I know i have to flex it to get compressed & fully extended lengths before ordering shocks:flipoff2:

Go to Ranchos web site, there's a specification guide in there somewhere which lists shocks by number and lenght. Under applications, under specifications 2 or 3 I think...pdf file. HTH

I run the Doetsch Tech (sp?) shocks from RE with 44044 springs (I guess about 2.5" over stock YJ)
I have Ford shock towers and my mounts are attched to the spring plate on top of the pack (actually these are also from the same ford I stole the towers off of)
I mounted the towers to allow for 6" up travel and the remainder (6.5-7") for downtravel.

Thanks guys, I think i am going to look into mounting the lower mounts on the spring plates.

order the longest shocks you can and then place the lower mounts to work with them.

Directly on top of the axle tube, right next to the spring perch.

I got em up here in Canada, So I am sure you can get your hands on them down there. Apparently they just stared making them 3 weeks ago. Just put in the call to Rancho directly and they can find a local "true" reseller. I say that cause alot of the places here that normally carry Ranchos hadn't even heard about this model.
National4WD up here ordered them directly from Rancho HQ
They were $68 CAD
So about $10...err I mean $45US
Haven't run em for a long time yet, but they are cans up and I have been told by Rancho that there is a "slight" performance drop that measures up to an inch of play. not a concern to me.

I am cheap and run the 5012's with the Ford towers up front and Wagoneer/CJ front towers on the outside of the frame for the rear. I have fullsize axles so contact is not an issue.

cut a piece of square tubing (2") drill holes in it grind out the sides with out the holes and weld them right on top of the tube. Thats what i run with custom hoops and 5012's. Buy the 5012 or 9012 then make all your mounts just to make sure you have the right amount of travel in both directions.
