Ryan,
Jason M 11-11-2006, 09:18 AM It is looking like Grogan, woody and I are gonna do a mall waggon run..
rockthedog 11-11-2006, 10:50 AM i'd let her drive the 40...........
fj40charles 11-11-2006, 11:53 AM I say let her drive the 40 since it will be easier to drive around tight turns.

peesalot 11-12-2006, 10:44 AM Ryan , I am going to bring my 6 year old daughter. Just my thoughts , witht he family on board you want to think about control and IMO you should drive and pack the family. I would make a rack for the top and put a child suspension seat in the rear. FWIW I plan on a tahoe side entry , hopefully monday with Mudrak , Tahoe boys and the Texans. Lets make a family run.
RocKrawler 11-12-2006, 07:28 PM Debating the same thing myself, I'm taking my 07 FJ through & thinking of having the wife drive the 62 so we have room to sleep & carry stuff.

I had a great time last year coming in at the beginning of the week through Cadillac to get a good spot in the Springs and missing all the traffic. Also let me lighten the Cruiser a bit before heading out for some more fun time.

teapot 11-13-2006, 09:52 AM Ryan, we plan on taking both rigs in, my 40 and her 62. Both will be running and are capable rigs. We plan on heading in early at Loon so that we don't hold anyone up and plan on a couple of days at Buck. It's still early and things might change but thats the plan for now.

Thursday Breakfast run? That would be perfect for you. I'll warn Bill Jackson and the Knorr Brothers now.

It's great to see the enthusiasm!
Phil Dayton of 4Wheel drive SUV has noted the 06 Rubithon article is included, and the cover shot is from the event.
I want to remind our Soccermomithon folks of the minimum requirements, at least 33s and a locker. We let that slip a little last year intentionally but plan to enforce in 07.
There will be a Tahoe Easy In run on Friday, entering from Tahoe Side. Looking for committee on that new run. Will be splitting up the Wed Breakfast group into a wagon run (Looking to Andy Pollock to lead) and Ross's group.
Sunday exit will have official committee lead by Pat Kennedy. (Been volunteers last years, Mudrak, Knorr Bros and PMK) Official this year.
We will some fly ins, will be calling for Trail Hosts to drive, feed and entertain them.
This effort gets started in January. Looking for Raffle Volunteers to assist Dave Thomas who single handedly put forth one of the best raffles ever!
Rubithon - don't take rocks for granite.
wngrog 11-14-2006, 07:41 AM The Toyota Trails staff vehicle will be sporting (2) lockers and 33's, sir.

Got your message on the phone, I am going to stick with the plan of coming in on Thursday and making a 2 day run to the Springs with Mark Hawley and crew. My co-pilot TK has is all figured out...
DaveWest5150 11-15-2006, 08:44 AM Its really not that difficult if you take your time, wagons should have some of "sliders" or you can expect damage to bottom of the doors, depending on how high the truck is lifted. If its your first time, see the whole trail... it really is worth it!

LC Hamma 11-15-2006, 11:09 AM I want to ship my truck to the closest LC shop, near the start of the trail, then fly in later to run the trails. So, is Placerville the closest or is Mudrak's shop the closest?
Pygpen 11-15-2006, 01:20 PM Trent-Fab is a few miles from the tahoe side of the trail. Mudrak is probably 3 hours drive time from the trail.

So, I would have to drive through the trail to get to Loon Lake? I saw this on the registration form:
All runs depart from Loon Lake except the breakfast runs.
So, is Loon Lake close to Placerville or are there any LC shops there? Is that where the raffle is being held? Mudrak's is too far a drive for a trail rig running drive slugs up front. Thanks!
BayAreaWheeler 11-15-2006, 02:48 PM Not quit understanding the fee's associated with the trail runs??? Can someone clue me in?

Rockzar 11-15-2006, 02:56 PM I think all the runs you would be interrested in start at Loon, and drive the 14ish miles to the springs. Placerville is closest to Loon. Theres a ton of Cruiser people in the Pollock Pines/ Camino/ Placerville area which you might also hook up with if you cant find a shop.
Your flight options are to either fly into South Lake from a connector flight, or direct into Reno or Sacramento.
If you fly into Reno or South lake and pick up at Trents-
Trent Fab is Tahoe side, so you would need to drive through the springs back to Loon (doing the trail "backwards") - or take hwy 50 to Pollock Pines, then to Loon. Probably a 3 hour drive?
If your rig is in Placerville/ etc- you would fly into Sacramento and drive an hour to your rig. Then another 45 min to Loon.
-Dustin
peesalot 11-15-2006, 03:27 PM Hamma , Tfab gets you close to Tahoe side entry. This route is taken by Mudraks crew and they run the trail all the way to loon to pick up Mudraks wed. entry group at loon then run back to springs. I would highly recommend this if you have time. It all depends on when you come. In any event contact Derek at Tfab as that will be a good spot to get to after event to ship rig out of.
Pygpen 11-15-2006, 05:04 PM Yea, If you're coming from Ga, you may as well get the "E" ticket and take the full ride! It's a whole different trail running it backwards.
Drive slugs, even from P-ville, would suck. pville to loon is quite a ways, mapquest says 52 miles, 1.5 hours.
In order to get where you started (if that is your plan), you will either have to run the trail backwards or go around the long way on hwy 50.

As noted those were 2006 fees. TOny hasn't set the 2007 fees. Some runs were discounted to get more people on that. The breakfast runs included food at Ice house, so they were more. Premier pack got you TLCA membership and other goodies.l

Yes Ross that is where I got that info from, that direct site, but that was last years info and why I was asking if it was going to be run this year as well.
I don't care what the fees are, I just asked if the run would be duplicated this year.
TinBox 11-16-2006, 06:30 AM Robb’s is closed on Wednesdays we departed from Ice House and don’t speed around Ice House Bob will have words with you!
Wow, you guys are early this year. As noted, the 07 info has not even been updated on the web site yet.
Dates, June 20 to 24th (weekend after fathers day)
Wednesday breakfast run still evaluating
Wednesday wagon run still evaluating
Thursday morning straight thru 7 AM
Thursday morning breakfast run 10 AM
Thursday bootleg run (Georg) noonish
Friday morning Loon 7 AM
Friday Tahoe easy in
No saturday runs, everyone should be in or entering the Springs
Friday night - committee and event awards, Maruader Bar
Saturday night - BBQ dinner, Raffle, music
Sunday Exit strategy, groups leave from 8 AM thru 10:30 AM in an organized fashion so Everyone gets out.
I am going to try and hold the same event fee structure, although I do believe these will go up possibly in 07 or for sure in 08.
Breakfast runs $100 (higher cost due to ice house breakfast)
Formal groups $70
bootleg or rogue groups $75 (must coordinate entry time)
Or the Premier Pack, any run, $200.00 includes event fee, two T-shirts, two Saturday morning breakfasts, two Sat night dinners, (two breakfast if on breakfast run), TLCA membership (or renewal added to your expiration date), an event jacket (light windbreaker with cotton lining) and an extra grand prize raffle ticket. Now this is a very good value if on a breakfast run and bringing along a passenger, and you want two of everything.
Comiittee has only pricing package but they work their butt off.
New Rule for 2007 and beyond... All Passengers must have Gloves as the ready. Will be part of safety tech inspection. A pair of gloves right there and when your passenger exits to stack rocks, gloves must be worn.
In 2006, I was very proud of our No Drinking on the Trail and how everyone cooperated as this is a formal event, and I was very proud of everyone keeping their dogs on a leash. However, our safety record in 06 was terrible and I am very disappointed with the amount of hand and finger injuries. One was very serious and thanks to our First Aid committee (and you Samantha), the folks in the emergencry room noted it would be saved. Yes, it was bad.
So this year, I am asking folks stacking rocks to wear some gloves or hand protection to avoid these types of injuries. No one should attend rubithon and go home hurt.
More to come...
cruzila 11-16-2006, 09:08 AM I want to ship my truck to the closest LC shop, near the start of the trail, then fly in later to run the trails. So, is Placerville the closest or is Mudrak's shop the closest?
Check out Hangtown Extreme in Placerville. 530-622-1412 They would be one of the closest and support the Friends of the Rubicon. that to me is becoming most important when I decide who gets my business. Josh is the service writer and Jeff is the owner.
I have a cruiser here from New York maybe I could do a "rental deal" :grinpimp:
cruzila 11-16-2006, 09:11 AM Tony, maybe you should consider rock rollers or assign people to the less experienced. Gloves are cool, but will still allow that finger to be smashed. It is all about knowing how things move.
Medusa 11-16-2006, 09:13 AM Chuck..I second the recommendation of shipping to Trent Fabrication in Tahoe City and registering for Mudrak's Double Locker run. More trail time (backwards and forward) and great folks.
Rockzar 11-16-2006, 09:51 AM I agree. And if you've never run it before and prob wont again for a long time, you should do it forward and backward. It feels like two different trails.
-Dustin
DaveWest5150 11-16-2006, 09:53 AM If you have the time... go both ways, you'll see stuff you'd miss going one way. We've done it like that for the last 5 years... no better way.
is it too early to get excited ?????
Petescoffee 11-16-2006, 10:31 AM Tony, maybe you should consider rock rollers or assign people to the less experienced. Gloves are cool, but will still allow that finger to be smashed. It is all about knowing how things move.
My first year (2 years ago) that is what the trail committe did with me. Had me follow an experienced driver that had a similar rig all the way to the springs. That was Neil Wilkendorf at Family Adventure Outfitters. Worked out great and now were friends to boot.
As for fingers they crush easy whether in gloves or not. I think leaving the spotting and directions to be given, for rock rolling etc., to the trail committee is the best. An inexperienced person should not be placing rocks. Make it part of the drivers meeting before the run starts. As for rock rollers on the trail start to finish. The exit strategy with spotters works great. If it was to be done anywhere else, I would pick the spot with the most back up. But then again as Pismo Jim has said, " This ain't no Jamboree".
Jason M 11-16-2006, 11:20 AM Thanks Tony, that is what I was looking for. You can still count on me for the Fri Soccer run down Cadillac. I am hoping that there will be a waggon/breakfast on wed.

60 days to go...
Petescoffee 04-24-2007, 07:37 AM If you can, bring a small or large raffle prize to contribute to the raffle. Last year lots of people brought in prizes to the event which is what made the raffle so good. If you or your company have a specialized part that you make for Land Cruisers or Mini trucks or what ever, fab one up and donate it to the raffle. Don't have a part that you make? Be creative. Tools, parts (not used broken parts), wine, beer, gift certificate etc.
If you want to donate something that is heavy, say an Orion Transfer Case for example, and don't want to haul it in yourself, send me a pm and we can arrange to have it brought in with the other raffle items.
Thanks,
Dave Thomas

oh ya, Rubithon! Knew I was supposed to be working on something!
Wagon run is full, all other runs wide open.
Spotter/passenger to have gloves. The thought is: By putting on the gloves, it will help remind folks to watch out for their fingers. This is not a debate whether or not they can save your finger, it is simply a safety rule, to help everyone stay focused on safety and returning with all their fingernails.
Yes, slow down through Ice House resort, or you will hear from Bob, then I will hear from Bob, yadda yadda yadda. Ever met the guy? You don't want to.
Marlin Crawler will be performing the sweep run again. If you want to run on Marlin's group, contact Marlin directly. They leave, and arrive, on Marlin time.

Bob really is a nice guy.
Yes he is actually, unless he's PO'ed about folks racing through the lot just so they can 'shake hands with their buddies' as Bob would say.
For the sake of safety, and the safety of our good relations with Ice House, slow down.
The real question now is... how am I going to replace Cruzila if you are unable to attend this year??

But I am almost giddy with excitement...
I just found out one of our 'special guests'. I will not devulge his name, as I expect he will announce his intentions to attend when he is ready.
Nolan, I want you to please confirm you plans and your passengers (privately). Not sure I fully understand the plan. Have not seen anything from you guys. Toss me a bone.

and not to jump the gun, but 2008 will be a banner year for Rubithon!
HANGTOWNCRUZR 05-02-2007, 11:22 AM 50 day countdown, should be a great run this year!

I just found out one of our 'special guests'. I will not devulge his name, as I expect he will announce his intentions to attend when he is ready.
Ok, so you threw the line in the water and set the hook. Come on, dont screw around, fess up.
Mark and I will be attending Rubithon this year. It will be my first at the rubicon.
Now my real dillema is who wants to carry my spare propane tank? :flipoff2:
As of right now I should have an open seat for a passenger.
peesalot 05-02-2007, 12:18 PM LT, I believe Mace has the low down on exactly how much pane you will need to run the trail thru.
Tony, nice build up.
Any confirmations goin out yet ?

hehe... ya, that was an aweful trick. but I just can't do it. Besides, everyone else might not find it a big deal... but I do.
I expect confirmations to go out within the next two weeks. I did not make it to the PO box last weekend but will for sure this weekend. All runs open except wagon run.
First batch of CC info has been submitted. Expect to finalize artwork soon.
Still lots of other stuff to do, long laundry list for this weekend.
All work and no play makes Tony a dull boy. Just ask Cindy!
and of course, my wife Cindy will be attending Rubithon this year so be sure to tell her thanks for all her help, and tolerating me.

Anyone coming through there at about that time?
Thanks, Luke
peesalot 05-04-2007, 12:19 PM Keep me posted Luke. More important is getting back to Reno from Tahoe. ?
Take a shuttle over the hill to a casino comin in.
I wanna finalize this stuff asap.
ginericfj80 05-04-2007, 06:39 PM Luke,
I can probably take you out. I'm going out Sat. after the dinner. My co-pilot has a flight leaving Sunday morning at 6:30 or so. I can't remember exactly but I know it is really early. It is a back seat in an 80 so it isn't too terrible. Although you might have to listen to my 4 year old son ramble on and on about Jeeps being Junk and their broken axles. Shoot me an email I'm sure we can work something out. I'm going out to the trailhead late Tues. night. His flight gets in at 1045 PM Tuesday night and we are on the wagon run leaving early Wed AM.

I might take you up on the ride out... my flight (as set right now) leaves at 4:40pm Sunday the 24th....we'll have to see what makes the best sense with the least hassle.
The ride in, for me right now is to land at 1:15pm Wednesday. I can move that flight to Tuesday if that makes everyone elses life easier. I'm not sweating it yet- I'm sure it'll all work out. Johns idea of taking a casino shuttle to South Tahoe might work better rather than making someone go all the way North through Reno just to pick me up.
Thanks, Luke

Shaun O'Leary.....
Md11 Freightdog is his PBB handle:p
ginericfj80 05-17-2007, 03:54 PM It isn't a guessing game. And it isn't really a secret, I just figured if he wanted you to know he'd say something.
Sean O'Leary rode with me at CM 02. Wow! That was a long time ago. And it isn't him.
At CM O5 I hosted a guy from Australia. That was sort of a trip.
CM 06 I dragged a buddy along, one of the founders of Dakota Territory Cruisers and NW Cruisers of Idaho. He was in one of the CA clubs in the 80s.
I pretty much drag anyone along on these adventures who will come. I even have dragged our school janitor out on a few runs.
If Ehsan flies over I will find room for him! Remember I have one of those cargo liner cruisers. Mine isn't mall rated or a Luxo Liner as I don't have leather.
Gabe, my 4 year old, is riding backseat driver. Boy will he be telling tall LC tales after this adventure. If you meet him be sure to ask him his opinion on Jeeps. I did not teach him anything, it is all based on his observations.
This whole ordeal is turning into a major expedition for us. Tuesday leave, pick up some folks in Reno late 10:45PM, Drive to S. Lake Tahoe CRASH, get up stumble to the door still half a sleep and book it to Loon. I'm even putting on my predented driveshaft on in the airport parking lot. This thing is turning into an odyssey. Sat. evening leave for Reno probably right after dinner as the "co-pilot" has a flight out at 6??? AM.
Then I pick the wife up at the airport in Reno. Head to Vacaville to visit some friends. Then we were going to head North to see the Redwoods but it sounds like we might go south and meet some friends from MH at Legoland. Which means the trip turned south some how. Anyway, imagine the Clampitts heading to Beverly Hills! I've never driven in California other than around Lake Tahoe. Remember I live in one of the rural Western States. I don't know where all we are going. Maybe Disneyland? But we are going to SOR as that is sort of one of those places for LC tourists. After Legoland, off to Vegas and then across the desert and home. We might run gravel all the way from Vegas home.
And yes all of this when GAS PRICES are at an ALL TIME HIGH. More than double than when I started legally driving 20 years ago. The good thing is I have to go to some in-service training for 3 days in June and the school district got a grant so I get a $500 stipend for that so that should offset the fuel costs back to normal (well at least to Idaho prices at $3.16/gallon). Last night I installed new 02 sensors. Gotta milk every 1/4 mile to the gallon increase I can.
So not only am I making a pilgrimige for my first Rubithon but I'm making a pilgrimige deep into the beginning roots of TLCA.
I suppose I'm going to have to add mudflaps on my list of pre-California trip mods with all the highway (whatever you guys call those multi-lane roads out there) I'm doing. My Idaho tear off flaps got tore off.
Sorry I got a little long winded there. I'm just very excited. I've been waiting 10 years to make it to this trail.
peesalot 05-17-2007, 07:10 PM If you need a place to stay when you head north for the redwoods PM me. I can put you up at the worldmark in windsor.

cardinal fang 05-21-2007, 10:41 PM I am doing a little survey job for Mark Smith in Georgetown. He organizes Jeep Jamboree. During the conversation he was telling me how Chrysler was providing 35 Rubicon jeeps for all the big wigs from Chrysler to use during this year's events. The whole JJ is a real big event for Chrysler and Jeep. Lots exposure and lots of big $$ flowing around the event. Why can't Toyota throw some cash at the Rubithon like Chrysler does for the jeeps? We get a few FJ cruisers that are driven by 'professionals'. The only thing the FJs did was irratate a lot of people. If wasn't for greenfox saving their butts a couple of times, they would still be stuck at Elise Creek. Will we be seeing more FJs from 'Toyota' at Rubithon this year?
woooody 05-22-2007, 02:06 AM Wow Bill --- Weren't you on the Thursday run? Didn't the Trail Team come in on the Wednesday run?
Yeah, the trail team was slower, but seriously, did you talk with Chris or Ron or Gustaf or any of the others on the team? They were told no body damage -- makes the trail just a wee bit tougher.
On a scale of money invested on "wheeling events" vs # of vehicles produced -- there is much more money available to Jeep over Toyota.
Ultimately, for Toyota, they are only targetting 60,000 vehicles/year. They are very happy with their results, and the return on their investment. They are hitting their target audience(s).
I talked with Tony this past weekend. I don't think the Trail Team has signed up yet, but there will be FJ Cruisers on this year's run. It's just time to deal with it. They are within our ranks. They share our trails.
DaveWest5150 05-22-2007, 07:16 AM Bill; come on arnt ya being a little harsh on the fj guys, they were with us on the wed. breakfast run and they were a little slower, but I remember a couple of 80 series going just as slow if not SLOWER and not wanting to trust their spotters. Besides they were pretty much stock, how hard would it be to bring a stock fj 55 through? I wouldnt want to be there!
see ya in june!

Tony,
Put me down for some more Ice Cream Certs. :D
During the 3 day weekend, fires were allowed with permits. Tickets were issued for fires without permits.
Tickets were also issued for camping on the bluffs at Loon, and for camping on the bluffs at Buck. All these situations were where the truck was parked further than 25 feet from teh trail centerline. the problem with the bluffs at Loon, is the trail is no where to be found in many areas. Suggest not camping on the bluffs... tickets are $175 and there was Move Your Truck option offered.
If camping the night prior, suggest along the lake or other formal camping areas.
Confirmations sent out Saturday, will send out another batch this saturday.
Chris, bummed you cannot make it.
Manny... thank you!

also, remember everyone, you can camp almost anywhere, but trucks need to remain in the 50' swath of trail, or 25' of centerline...
Rubicon Trail Camping Info
Camping is allowed anywhere along the trail and at the Loon Lake Staging area. Be advised, stay within 50' of the centerline of the trail. $275 fine for driving or camping off the trail on either side by 25'. No camping within100' of water/Lakes/Rivers.
* Link to detailed GPS co-ordinates. Get this info and don't get lost! Go!
More from Del:
Rubicon Trail Restrictions (50 feet Right of Way)
By Court Order (due to a lawsuit filed in 2005 against the USDA Forest Service), all vehicles must remain within 25 feet of centerline of the Rubicon Trail -- a non-maintained county road.
In other words, the USFS property on both sides of the Rubicon Trail are temporarily closed to vehicles. You must keep your vehicle within the county easement (50 feet total). Signs are up but are not always reliable. FOTR and county Sheriff personnel try to keep the signage current, but you can't count on it. You must know where the trail is.

Fines range from $175 to $275 or more for violations of the 50 foot easement (25 feet of centerline).
Note: you can camp or walk any where you want; you just can't take your vehicle outside the easement. This does not apply to private property such as the Rubicon Soda Springs area.

cardinal fang 06-05-2007, 07:44 PM "No camping within 100' of water/Lakes/Rivers."
This needs some clairification. If we are to obey this, then that would rule out camping just about anywhere around Buck Island. The traditional camping area below the damn and along the creek would fall into the 100'. Is Buck Island camping area closed? Is Buck Island a PG&E reservior and then private property? Buck Island does drain down into Loon via PG&E's tunnel which would seem to make it PG&E's property. .

pismojim 06-05-2007, 10:47 PM Great idea on the gloves Tony. I smashed a finger @$#$%!!!! stacking rocks last August (during a solo trip to Coyote lake in the 80 Series - while trying to be "proactive" and avoid a big stuck. I'm telling Katherine don't worry honey, this is cake for the 80 series, while I thinking damn this is tough, I wish I had a winch or another rig with us.)
The only good??? part of smashing a finger was I was constantly reminded of the great trip everytime I looked at my nail-less finger for the next 2-3 months.
Glad to hear you're processing late app's but I sure wish people would get their stuff in to you earlier. You're a good sport, thanks for all you do to put this together. I hope you're not sitting with a Cruiser up on blocks waiting for parts delivery like me. One of these days, I be ready early - yeah right.
Oh yeah, I picked up a passenger so get me another breakfast Bro.
Just Kidding...
:grinpimp::shaking::grinpimp:
But I did get a passenger.
See ya soon,
If you registered prior to the cutoff, or close, confirmations went out today. If you have just registered (late), drop me an email for confirmation of simply show up.
Again, nothing is guaranteed after the cut off except a good time.
I have 35 late registrations. (picture me shaking my head, and rolling my eyes). However, I am certainly glad everyone is coming to Rubithon!
If you have an ipod, and a set of tunes, bring it and take your seat as DJ...
if you have extra alcohol, bring it for Marauder bar.
If you have an extra raffle prize, bring it for Dave Thomas and some lucky winner.
if you don't have a fan shroud, fabricate and install now!
If you have an attitude, leave it at home.
Remember, gloves for passenger, safety is our top priority, followed by fun!
ginericfj80 06-09-2007, 12:32 PM I'm bringing my positive attitude. :mr-t: I'm so excited. I figure I'll be able to sleep a few more days before the rush kicks in.
The Cruiser should be done on Wednesday. I feel like a 40 guy. Last minute projects. I installed new gears. That turned into a whole week project. New brakes, new lube, new grease and seals in the wheel bearings front and rear. Now that is back together I'm just doing frivolous stuff on the interior.
Well I better go get the garage cleaned up and get it off of jack stands so I can go take it for a test drive.
eric... did your package arrive?
Looks like i'm out. My cruiser was hit and had the entire propane system minus the tank stolen out of it and the alternator :(
rugburn 06-09-2007, 01:45 PM Damn dude, that sux......
Same bastids that hit me probably.
Time to get the cameras rolling again....
peesalot 06-09-2007, 02:15 PM LT , think it was the fawkers from the last shop ?
That blows, I thought the new shop was secure ?
Don't think so...
This was too pre-meditated. The cleanly took my whole system with tools and everything. Un bolted everything, un hooked the hose clamps from the vaporizer, even took my high pressure hose from the propane tank to the fuel lock off valve. On top of that I had air fuel gauge hooked up my exhaust to help with tuning. They took that as well.
This really pisses me off. Obviously someone knew my cruiser and what I had under the hood. Most people think my propane tank is a giant air tank in the back.
Mark and I leave our rigs in the grass because we don't have a giant shop to house a bunch of rigs. We haven't put our security cameras back up from the old shop. With this and a couple of others hits that have happened here it is time they come back on.

Rat70FJ 06-09-2007, 04:07 PM I have an open seat in my 40 as of today. You're welcome to it. Wednsday pm.

I'm gonna pass on Rubithon. First I tried to get my 40 ready for the Lone State Round Up and couldn't do it. Then I tried for Moab and almost had it ready, but ran out of time. I was nearing the end of my project for Rubithon till this happened. Don't really want to go wheeling unless i'm in my rig, kind of loses all the fun riding passenger thinking I could be doing all of the obstacles in my own rig.

NO problem, you could always come by our place and drive our 40. Better than passenger or passing. Mark can give you directions.
teapot 06-10-2007, 09:27 AM Time to get a nice police dog in your rig to rip the arms of the thieves. They only listen to one person and they will not stop until they hear YOUR voice w/command(the next morning). Just get a license plate frame that says beware of dog, that way they were warned. I hate thieves.

Really sorry to read about what happened...have faith, karma always comes around and makes things right.
This will only be my 4th Rubithon, my 2nd driving my own rig.
Sure, your grin is bigger when you drive, but honestly...being there still ROCKS :smokin:
see you on the trail,

Final run lists have been sent out to trail leaders. Trail leader 'stuff' is either arriving or will be arriving shortly. Will follow up with radio channels.
Breakfast counts to Ice House and list. Bring those yellow tickets that were in your confirmation. Did not get your confirmation?? don't fret, just show up, they have a list with last names.
Raffle stuff (and there is a lot of it) dropped off for escort into the springs.
Picking up shirts this Friday for bag and tag.
and finally, if you have not registered, register in the Springs. You must register to receive your camping permit. folks without a permit will be asked to leave. Please don't put us in this unfortunate scenario. Simply register.
That is all... packing thoroughly, but do not overpack. Prepare for sun, but don't forget tarps and raingear. Bring a Marauder Bar donation. Bring a raffle prize.
Get ready to have an excellent time on the Rubicon with your TLCA friends!

Every body is welcome we will mark a spot off and leave a tarp there, can you say BEACH PARTY  Mr Manny somthing tells me i see Margarita"s::smokin: Looking forward to seeing eveyone, ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM ::)
cardinal fang 06-12-2007, 09:05 PM Got all the registration goodies today. No final list yet, but I expect it before monday. Looks like I wwasn't too far off about the campfires. No campfires this year. Propane stove will be in the camping gear.
I am madly trying to get my 40 ready. One thing after another seems to go wrong. Got the TC installed and working fine. Yesterday, I was driving it around down and the temp went over 210  It has never got that high before. Pulled the thermostat housing out today. The thermostat was cocked sidwarys in the inlet passage. Now, how in the world did it do that? I have one on order that will be here thursday.
Putting new Ubolts and spring plates from Ruff Stuff on also. All are installed execpt the passager side front. Having problems with that side. The ubolts don't want to line parallel with each other. They are going in crooked to each other? Will try again tomorrow.
A few other minor things being installed, upgraded from last year. I have all next week off, so I have lots of time to get ready. :D:p
woooody 06-13-2007, 08:19 AM Bill is correct -- starting June 18th, fire restrictions in effect:
http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/eldorado/conditions/fire-restrictions/index.shtml
Also -- Note that Rubicon springs is not covered by this. But camping at Loon or Buck is. Fire permit only allows gas/propane/sterno cooking. No Charcoal. Fires only allowed in pits. (know of any "official" pits on the trail? me either).
pismojim 06-13-2007, 08:40 AM Also -- Note that Rubicon springs is not covered by this.
Are you saying camp fires will be allowed at Rubicon Springs?
peesalot 06-13-2007, 08:51 AM Delete that and shhhhhhhhhhh!
Shit happens.
woooody 06-13-2007, 09:02 AM Are you saying camp fires will be allowed at Rubicon Springs?
Private property is up to the land owners. I would presume that the caretaker will have more info once we are there.
I suspect that the Saturday bonfire still occurs. As for the springs/bluffs camp fires? Good question.
peesalot 06-13-2007, 09:04 AM Me thinks the big fire pit is gonna be crowded.
We can just snuggle up to Ross for warmth.
peesalot 06-13-2007, 09:13 AM What if it is rains ?
Guess we'll see !!!!!!!!
I would offer that the same fire restrictions will be in place for Rubicon Springs. Attendees should plan accordingly.
Plan for the worst... hope for the best.

That's where I'm at.
I was just contemplating leaving the chainsaw and its fuel at home.
Next up, whether or not to bring the spare rear axles now that I have the new PIG ones installed. The fronts and birfs aren't so bad and the spare driveshaft is definitely going for the ride. Hmmmm....

For some reason, Craig, a line from a ficticious Kurt Vonnegut speech comes to mind "always wear sunscreen!"
As for spare parts, the less the better; loading a rig down with the kitchen sink, so to speak, will probably guarantee breakage... But, hey, what the heck do I know :D
Andy

I'm sure I'm gonna hear that line from crazy lotion girl before I walk out the door next week. :shaking:
Oh ...PismoJim, I'm leaving my spare diff at home to save weight this year. But I'm bringing my axles.
pismojim 06-13-2007, 03:34 PM I'll tell you one thing, the PIG chromoly axles are super LIGHT compared to the stock semi floaters. Especially, the long side FJ60 specific axle.
I was going to bring the short side so I could loan it to 40/60 person if needed.
BTW, I don't bring the spares for myself, its just a ploy to get people to hang out with me.
:flipoff2:
[Edit] I just realized I could loan it to Krusty if he could find a stock FJ60 to drive through.... of course the rear axle would likely be the last thing to break.

Hey Mike
Will be giving you and Glenn a ring next week. Was planning to make it up to Plavcerville Wednesday evening. If you are camping at Look... I may just join you.
For anyone driving up Wednesday... I am leaving my house in S.San Jose... no real time in mind yet. If you want to caravan, let me know! Would welcome the company on the road! CB wil be set at the date if I see you on the road.
Hydro assist and rear rack almost done :D Can't wait!!!

Actually, Jim, now that Gatekeeper is gone I might make it through with "less" damage :D  These days I am much more content in my 40 (when its running). Have a good time at Rubithon - you won't need spare axles!

Medusa 06-13-2007, 05:51 PM Loaded and ready to head south early Sunday morning. I decided to bring my little M416 trailer this year. It has more room for essentials  than the smaller trailer I have borrowed from local jbcruiser in recent years. If I don't show, the CHP has probably arrested me and thrown away the key:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Always looking forward to seeing you make those big rocks look small.
Rat70FJ 06-13-2007, 06:19 PM Jack, Not that I question your driving skill but how do you justify that rig? Class 1 license??
Medusa 06-13-2007, 06:34 PM My reading of the Oregon and California regs indicates that you can pull two trailers as long as you do not exceed a certain length. You see this most commonly with a PU pulling a travel trailer and behind that a boat. If stopped, I plan to argue that the M416 is a boat, since the military designed it to float, and the original drain plugs are intact:flipoff2:
rugburn 06-13-2007, 06:55 PM just watch out when you are backing up Jack!
Be safe and keep us updated!

Any idea what the certain length is?
I'll buy that but, the only multi trailer rigs I've seen were trailers behind a fifth wheel AND driven by a soul with a class 1 (?) semi license. Good luck sir! Realistically I find that if you are a mature, contributing member of society (we both fit that category physically!) that you can get away with a bunch of stuff that my boys, for instance, can't.
That must be an interesting rig to back up!
'bout time for a repaint on the 416??
What are your plans, Jack? I'd assume Tahoe City on Monday, then..............................?
My reading of the Oregon and California regs indicates that you can pull two trailers as long as you do not exceed a certain length. I thought the middle trailer had to be a 5th wheel to pull that configuration.
woooody 06-13-2007, 11:05 PM A Class C license is only good for one towed vehicle. A non commercial Class A can tow above 10K for trailers, and above 15K for 5th wheels. Non commercial B can tow under 10K trailer, 10 - 15K 5th wheel.
However -- if your arrangement is legal in Oregon, you're probably OK.

Pooze 06-13-2007, 11:07 PM Just a reminder make sure you bring BUG REPELENT the mosquitos are bad, waterproof is best, also bug guard for any dogs that may be coming. I was there last weekend on the trail repair and they were bad.
