the 360 in my J10 has a ticking lifter... and the 304 in my cherokee has been recently rebuilt (less than 5k miles)

so would it be ok to swap the lifters from my cherokee into my J10? (yes i'm cheap like that)

same block, same cam, same lifters, etc etc

Lifters "wear" onto the cam they are running on. I would not put a used set of lifters on any other cam, this is also why its important to not mix them up and to put them back on exactly the same lobe they came off of....

the $60 for a set of lifters is well worth the security of knowing they won't be ther reason yous hiking 10 miles, in the dark, in the rain, to the nearest payphone to call a tow truck :)

so to answer your question - NO ;)

No, you can't swap lifters. Lifters wear to the cam lobe they are riding on, if you swap them out from another engine, you will toast your cam. :skull:

I have a new cam and lifters from a 360 project I killed. (Read willing to sell fairly cheap) Some of the lifters might have light surface rust. Email me if your interested.

I don't know about your particular engine, but on some engines, the lifters can be re-ground, or re-surfaced.

Lifters do wear to the cam lobes which is why initial break-in on an engine is so important. The reason you run a new engine at sustained, higher RPM for a while when you first fire it up is to break in the cam, not the cylinders or other parts.

Lifters also tend to mushroom at the base a little it. Thats why they usually come out harder than they go in. In theory this can also cause problems when moving to another block.

And the summary............
Just buy new ones or you will most likely flatten the lobes on the cam.
