So we bought an XJ yesterday and now i'm sitting here at work daydreaming away.
With the new addition to our family it appears as though the cj http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid13/p2d966eb05de2f72e78fe6cb8abb3127a/fdd4c38d.jpg just isnt going to cut it any more.
So without doing any reasearch or even lookin under the xj extensively.
whats the posiblility of swaping the scout II d-44's out of my cj and into the xj.
Now i know that this sounds like a :rainbow: question, and i realize that the flaming will begin. but like i said before. i have hardly even looked under the xj let alone take any measurements.
The axles under the CJ are spring over on yj stock leaves. I would love to run the 35's that are on them now but some 37-38's would be even better
So, is it do-able?

You'll have to cut the coil mounts and crap off of the dana 30 on the XJ or buy new brackets from Rubicon express. or make your own.
You will be going ftom drivers side to passenger side front diff so you might want to put throw dana 300 in the XJ while your at it :D
Ford dana 44 fronts work nicely in XJ's.

So i'm guessing that the cj d-300 wont bolt onto the xj tranny?

HMMMM I'm guessing that if the XJ is a six cylinder it should bolt in.
I'm pretty sure some wise ass will correct me if I am wrong :D

hehe, consider me a wise ass :)
the d300 won't bolt to any xj tranny- different spline count. you're best off with a ford d44. it'll cost you the price of an adapter to get that d300 in there, not to mention trying to re-do the shifter which will come up thru the other side of the tranny tunnel. oh yeah, and new/modified driveshafts. if you have the 258 (or it's BH) in the cj, you could take the entire drivetrain out of the cj and bolt it to the xj's 4.0. you'll have to drill a CPS hole in the BH which (i believe) has to be pretty precise. if you do that, you'll either have to modify the hydraulic throwout bearing to work with the cj drivetrain, or make a clutch setup (hydraulic would be easiest).

The bolt pattern for a Jeep d300 is the same and if your XJ has a 23 spline trans all you need is a 7/8"spacer/clocking ring to make it fit.
IMO swap the d300 case and axles in. They should be wide enough, if not add some spacers or such. Stock XJ axles are about 60" wide and need 4" of backspacing or less to fit 33 to 35" tires.

does that AA output kit make the d300 a 23 spline?
The AA output kit makes the output shaft a 32 spline. But why would this matter???
A d300 from a Jeep has a 23 spline input shaft that will fit a 23 spline XJ trans with a 7/8" spacer/clocking ring.
Do a search there a ton of info about this... :rasta:
