do I need to use a crank double pully for my power steering set up? Why cant I just run the ps pump and the alternator off the water pump double pully?

I used a double pulley on my new setup. Worked pretty good. I guess you could use one belt to run all of the items, but I don't know how hard it would be to get the correct belt tension. I thought about doing that but, I ended up finding a double crank pulley for pretty cheap so I went that route instead.

you could also use a dubble pulley on the water pump and run the ps pump off that but Imo it is safer to run accesorys directly off the crank

thats what im asking, why cant I just use the double pully off the water pump?

you could. I am sure it has been done. go for it if you want. it seems to me like running to many things on one cercut. it may work for a while but its not the best idea:jeep3:

on my 2f, i have the double crankshaft pulley, but a single pulley on the water pump. i wish i had the double onthe pump so id have 3 points for each belt, but right now im running my p/s pump off of just the crankshaft double:rasta:

I was told that it's got a better chance of slipping on one pulley, but I have mine running off the water pump for a couple years and it's never been a problem

The more power you transmit though the primary belt ie. the one between the crank and water pump, the quicker it will wear out. If you take that into consideration, there should be no problems with what you are saying. They are all going to wear out eventually!

I would suggest running all the critical stuff (water pump and alternator) off one belt, and auxilliaries (p/s pump, compressor etc.) off another.
