Anyne here know if the knuckles off of a scout dana 44, will work with the stock spindles and brake backing plates off of a full width chevy dana 44?

nope. scout dana 44 is 8 stud, chev is 6, ford is 5.

what are you trying to do?

The stub shafts are different lengths, too. Just use the Chebby knuckles with the rest of the stuff you have.

Scout II D30 (open) knuckles will. You will need to use the GM stub though.

if you are wanting to maintain the 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern you can use 76 and down chevy small bearing spindles mated to ford hubs and rotors.

this page should answer any questions you may have.

IIRC only the drum brake dana 30's had 6 stud spindles. the 1974 disk option d30's have 8 studs, mine did anyway.

Yes, your correct. I should have clarified.

:shaking:

Assuming you are wanting to keep the scout AXLE itself and adapt it to Chevy stuff:

Bolt the scout spindle flat face to the chevy spindle flat face. IIRC two holes line up to bolt them. Use the Scout spindle as a template to drill the Chevy spindle to match the Scout Spindle/knuckle studs.

Bolt on redrilled chevy spindle and chevy parts. Only hitch is you need to use the chevy stub axles with the inners.

Now you have chevy brake parts and internal hubs that you can buy at Autozone/where ever at 8pm on a Saturday night.

IIRC I used the Stock SII brake lines to bolt to the chevy calipers. I had to grind some on the brake line fitting. Seems it was a little wide on one side.

I did this five or six years ago....thus all the IIRC's.

he asked if it would work with STOCK spindles.

you would also have to redrill the backing plate.

Couldn't he just use everything balljoint out, including outer shafts, from a pre 76 .5 ton chevy with ford hubs and rotors?

how is that wrong?

 Not "wrong" per se.

It will work with stock chevy spindles once he drills them to mate up to the scout knuckle while using the scout spindle for a pattern. I always use a 78 chevy as reference for counter clowns.

Course, I am specifically talking about the 3/4 ton IH truck hd D44 I converted to 78 chevy 3/4 ton from the spindle out. IIRC the same could have been done with the stock scout axle.

Maybe I'm just shooting my mouth off. :rasta: I'm pretty sure he can get it to work. Maybe the day crew will chime in and clarify.

All I know is bolt the two together and see if you can re-drill the chevy spindle to match the scout spindle. Then use chevy stuff on outside.
