Hey, does anyone know off hand what the offset is on a LC six banger motor?
I think it is ~ 3" to the drivers side but want to make sure...

Thanks.

It is more like 4" Jason.

When I put the centered rear axle behind my Cruiser with the Atlas, it was way off....

See if you can tell from this shot...

Isn't the motor offset to the passenger side?:skull:

Depends on which continent you are on so let's just say it is the left side offset....

LOL,
Thanks guys..

I got a Taco rear axle for free!!!
They are 60" wide, I figure that I can narrow the "left" side to match the engine offset with a standard mini axle on that side. Makes it a bit longer than a stock LC by 2 or so inches. Plus the Taco has a bigger ring gear than the mini axle, a double pinion bearing and is trussed. Lets see how well it holds up to the LC...

Come awn OTT with the adapter!!!!!! ;)

As long as your compound driveshaft angles are not too great, it doesn't matter if your t-case and pinion are offset. I think my driveline is more like 3" offset to the left side. I can measure tonight since there is no tranny or t-case installed right now.

That is the problem. Trying to fit the Lcmotor/sm420/minicrawler/minitcase into a Cruiser will be tough enough. I need to try to make sure that there is as little variation between the tcase and the pinion.
The rear axle will have to be moved back a bunch..

That will be fun negotiating the rocks....right hand pumpkin on the front and a left hand pumpkin on the rear.

Have fun with that one!

Keep it centered!

Good point,
how bad do you think it would be to have a stock 55 (or so) inch frontend and a 60" rearend??

No problem as long as you use some spacers on the front....you will be getting pretty funy with your 2" BS rims and 2" spacers though.

I would use the FJ-60 front housing and outboard my PS spring.

Okay, Now I will have to trundle off to find a FJ60 frontend....

Thank god everything I have on my current axle will fit the 60...
I could go 44 but then I would loose the Superbirfs!!!

Thanks Nolen,

Now to get my Cruiser to the exhaust shop to move the muffler so that I will not be using my track bar as a rock finder.

"You don't suppose we should fix that bent Heim do ya??? "

;)

BTW, I beat the hell out of it on the way back. Still holding up just fine. Didn't think the cruiser would ride that well in baja mode... :D

it's stock location is 14.5" from the passenger's side and 10" from the driver's side. that's from the inside of the frame rail to the center of the crank pulley

hey cool info man002

jason, the FJ60 housing is 85mm wider
and 75mm = 3 inch
and 100mm = 4 inch

and you need to get the long side inner axle, it is 85mm longer, but your short side and birfs are the same

if you dont feel like outboarding your springs, do what i did, i can get you some photos of my setup

i had to lift it 15mm (around 1/2 an inch) to get the spring to fit, and there was no need for outboarding

ive really given it some stick, and have yet to break off my 'fixed u-bolt' type thingy
(these were from pirate somewhere)

The older cruzahs, 60's vintage, had a centered diff housing with an offset xfer case. Driveshaft is at a compound angle. Never heard of any problems running it this way.:skull:

I know what you mean.....why do you think my WB is currently at 108"????? My rear drive shaft is about 28" long too. The compound angle sucks. It would be easier just to swap in a 350 and move the drive train forward some. Oh well, you have to make it work with what you have.

My mini is for PISMO and hauling around my motorcycles. That thing has a 122" WB. Not too friendly in the rocks.

My :fj: (FJ40) has the 108" WB.

Okay, how did you get 108" out of your 40? How far back is the rear axle moved???

And I always though 55's were :fj:
:)

I don't know where the rear axle started from, but when I did my SOA a few years ago, I moved the front axle forward and the rear axle back to get a 100" WB. Now I am in the process of moving my rear axle back even more to 108" WB. I have not quite finished it yet, but I am working on it.

As for the :fj: thing, I have always called all FJs pigs.....the 55 is the "iron" pig and for some reason Mike (Bent and Twisted) always called 40s "earth" pigs or something like that. I don't know why, but I just got used to saying that. I guess the :fj: also comes from the fact that it is a pig (slow, noisy, and dirty).
