i recenly picked up a tow vehicle 84 Ford F250 4x4 with fresh 460 it has a d60 in the rear from a 79 f250 cause the original axel went out and the 79 is what he could find. my question has to do with the front axel. it presently has that ifs d44 and is in need of being rebuilt....being that im not a fan of the ifs d44 and would rather put money into something i like, im wondering if a solid axel ford d44 will bolt right in under the leafs or is there a bunch of mods that have to be done. to make it work.....i did do a search but didnt find anything that answered my question they were mostly about f150's......

thanks for the help in advance....

bolt under, no, but you can make them fit, though it will require some lifting.

However, a 60 from a 85.5-97 truck is a bolt in swap.

86-91 front end would be a bolt in - if you got the brakets off a donor truck - got one for my 95 f250 - when i have the cash to rebuild it - or it will go under my crawler - or -or :D

what do you mean some lifting?

I think he meant it needs to be lifted to clear the bulkier crossmember from the TTB truck.

exactl, when I did this on my 89' half ton, I used 6" lift coils, and it still took some cutting

the truck has a lift on it now...it is sitting on 38.5 but im sure it would clear 40's but i planned on cutting that cross member out and fabing my own. i want to put a bigger oil pan on the thing and with that huge piece of crap cross member there i cant get to it......so from what i understand then a D60 will bolt right in but a D44 wont? but still dont know what brakets that f250rollinon37's is talking about.....leaf springs are already there so i just need u-bolts and u-bolt plates which i can get from the donner, or new if i dont want to mess with the old ones.....am i on track or not...
