: Transmission ID

I found two trucks that might provide a powerplant for a small project I have. I am not very familiar with Ford applications, so I have a few questions on drivetrains. I would like to verify what transmission each of the following two trucks have and what transfer cases would interchange (my project has a Dodge, passenger side drop front axle).

Truck #1: 1986 F-250 with 460 - VIN 1FTHX26L1GKB50712

Truck #2: 1981 F-250 with 351 - VIN 1FTHF26G3BRA20162

Both are automatic (non-overdrive), 4wd with TTB.

Thank you.

They should both have a C6 if they are 3 speed autos, and any ford full size truck transfercase will interchange w/ some work. The bolt circles and spline counts are all the same. The NP205 takes a little bit of work to put behind the C6 that has an aluminum extension houseing. The E.H. has to be notched for the shift rail, and the input bearing retainer on the 205 has to either be countersunk and changed from cap head screws to countersunk screws (easy to do, as the retainer is aluminum and the countersink can easily be cut by a power drill and a countersink cutter), or the baffle on the inside of the E.H. has to b modified to clear the cap head screws. Most likely both of those trucks have an NP208, fixed yoke. But it is possible they got a NP205 or a BW case.

Have to disagree on the previous statement about T-case.
Typically the F-250's from 1980-86ish came with the BW1345, while the 150's had the NP208 and sometimes the 1345. never a 205 for any Ford after 1979.

Ford uses a drivers drop for the front driveshaft/axle.
