: Hummer wheel magnesium inserts
What is the best way to remove the ridge from them?
If I cut and grind forever, will the magnesium Kill me? I assume it won't but I'd rather not die.
whatttttttttt....
its not frikin asbestos dude, besides the smog in L.A will kill ya first :flipoff2:
why do you wanna cut the edges of the runflat...there really isnt a need to do that unless you are going to run like 35 inch tires...:p
stover 05-06-2002, 07:43 PM One word, torch.
use grinder to smooth.
fcfred 05-06-2002, 07:46 PM what!!!!
don't touch that torch!
hahahahaahha! torch are you sick in the head or what...that runflat will melt faster then you can see it melt...:mad3: :mad3: :mad3:
jeeper111 05-06-2002, 08:10 PM I am with them. A torch is a dumn Idea.:mad3:
66CJdean 05-06-2002, 09:07 PM Torch and Magnesium! Tell me that is a joke. If you do grind it I would say do it outside because the dust will be very flamable.
AIRZUKI 05-06-2002, 11:49 PM vertical bandsaw....... and keep away from water ....... Magnesium burns better with water..... take your torch striker to a little pile of bandsaw chips and see what I mean.........

That could be the worst advice ever given in the tech section :nuke: . Newt, can you enlighten us as to why you want to do this?

MattS 05-07-2002, 07:40 AM Great way to help someone burn their house down dipshit!!! If for some reason the magnesium did catch on fire you can pour sand on it or I would suggest getting a bucket of Class-D extinguishing agent. It will have a star on it. That is the symbol for class D.

As far as the why goes, the ridge that runs down the middle of the run flat poses problems when your running at really low pressures. I'll be using 38*12.50s which are just a smidge bigger than the hummer stock 37s. I don't want to pinch the tire up against the ridge of the runflat and cut it.
I'll be staying away from the torch. I think the saws-all will be the weapon of choise.
How long do you think it will take me to do each wheel?
that is a myth ...you do not need to do that at all.there was one guy swho had the inside of his tire explode on him because he was running very low pressures on the highway an street for a couple of weeks...you do not have to cut or shave off anything...
just FYI....
Hey, that looks pretty ez, all you need is "Photo Shop" to cut the runflat off :flipoff2:
OK, who's running the mag inserts with the ridge?
Have there been any problems?
In other words, do I need to trim them?
MattS 05-07-2002, 12:36 PM I read that anything BIGGER than 38 is OK. Meaning 39, 42, 44 but it really depends on how low you plan to air down and how wild and crazy you get.

Here's 38.5 SXs @ 6psi(They work better @9-10psi, don't fold over), bead holds and they don't get cut by the runflat.
yo pyro...those are great shots...it shows it perfectly there:rolleyes:

So, let's see how you did your Humvee runflats, any examples?, photos?, anything? or are you just being a little bitch again. BTW, mag doesn't fuck'n melt under a torch, it burns like a fuck'n fireworks show.:flipoff:
MattS 05-07-2002, 09:36 PM Maybe he wants pics of the new clear SX's so he can SEE the runflat!! :D Jeez whadayagonnado?
Your word that it works for you on 38's is just not enough! :D

Some of the Mag runflat rings I picked up had little baggies of grease taped to them.. I think the idea was that if you had to run on the runflat the grease bags would pop and keep the inside of the tire cooler
That being said I have already cut the ridges off of my runflats...
