ok i whats wrong with my 87 ranger w/ 2.9v6. i got hit in the drive side front corner and one week later the charging system quits, i had the atlenator rebuilt twice and put in a battery, but its still on charging. its only charging at 11.92 volts and not 13 to 14 volts has anyone came acrossed the same problem i'm not sure if the fender bender has anything to do with the charging problem, but might not.
any help would be great thanx ;beer;

ok - fords used a fuseable link between their alternators and the starter solinoids - it looks like a wire but a can melt inside the sheald - check for power ( 12 volts ) at the alternator output ( the biggest wire ) and check for a good alternator case ground - check your fuses - i dont remember if your truck has a charging fuse - i dont think it does - also check for power at the alternator plug with the key on - hope this helps - let me know if you need a wiring diagram - :D

Also on that year is it internally regulated or externally?

87 I would guess externally regulated and the rugulator is probably on the battery side of the engine between the bat and alt.
