: New tow rig - 06 2500 Cummins - Things to look for?
GloNDark 11-16-2006, 11:48 AM Picked up my new tow rig from Carson Dodge on sunday. :D
2006 2500 SLT, cummins, auto, leveling kit, wheels, tires, flares. :D Dig it!
Anything to watch for on this model/year? Does anyone know if an edge attitude monitor will work with out getting the performance chip installed? I want the gauge functions, but don't want to fawk my warranty with the performance module. :D

welndmn 11-16-2006, 11:53 AM No, the Edge crap won't work.
Get a Commander (www.quadzillapower.com)
Things to watch on a new dodge......
The A/C sucks, not near as good as other brands, just live with it.
You need quality fuel, and quality fuel filters, these dodges tend to clog, and crack injectors.
welndmn 11-16-2006, 11:54 AM Oh, buy a chip you sissy, the best time to bomb your truck is when its under warrenty. Just get one that does not leave traces.

Yeah ......................................... x2.
welndmn 11-16-2006, 01:13 PM My quadzilla does not leave a trace that we have been able to find.
The Smarty (http://www.madselectronics.com/) is the only company I know that puts on their product to claim to not leave a trace at all
http://www.madselectronics.com/Smarty04.html
"2) No trace is left in the ECM!
I herby CLAIM that SmartyCR is the FIRST AND ONLY downloader that does not erase any of
the stored data in the ECM. Smarty does NOT leave any electronic footprints in the ECM or
any other electronic module in the truck. Smarty does NOT set ANY codes once the ECM is set
back to stock. Smarty does NOT need to have fuses pulled.

johnny_boy02 11-16-2006, 04:31 PM Nice choice! Thats my truck, just with fender flares and auto.
The a/c does suck, but when it was 110 here for like 3 straight weeks it did a ok job. The only problem I have had is the switch under the dash that moves the blower from floor to you to windsheild went out. And the drivers side fender area vibrates a little when slowing down.
Other than that I have owned it almost a year and 15k miles with no problems.
tj40ounce 11-17-2006, 08:17 AM straight pipe it; bhaf and remove the silencer ring... I have heard a lot of good things about the edge juice w/attitude. Shouldn't affect your warranty. You will get some performance and guages in a nice package. Check out www.cumminsforum.com. Tons of info and they are nice to newbies...
Valley Auto 11-17-2006, 08:18 AM I have had good luck selling the bully dog downloaders(triple dog) and have had a few customers take the truck in for unrelated problems and the havent found one yet, even the one that got left in LOL just my 2cx
Luken 11-17-2006, 08:35 AM I know of a few chips you can use that won't void your warranty... You just gotta be sneaky:smokin:
But hell, what do I know:flipoff2:

The Edge/Attitude WILL void your warranty most of the time. While it's true
that a few dealers might "look the other way", DC has become EXTREMELY
shitty on warranty issues. If you have "bombed" your CTD with something
like an Edge DC WILL void your warranty.
ChiXJeff 11-17-2006, 09:04 AM Voiding warranties is both true and false. D/C absolutely CAN void the warranty if a modification led to the failure, i.e. a smoked transmission after bombing the engine. They aren't allowed to void the warranty on the entire vehicle.
welndmn 11-17-2006, 09:08 AM But they try, and Customers fall for it.
Its not really the dealer thats the issue, but if you get a hot item (CP3, liftpump, injectors) The tech has to call Star, star is the problem with it, they are ones that will either come out and look for mods, or make the tech find them.
Luken 11-17-2006, 09:13 AM I took my bully dog downloader off to try the new "smarty"... long story short, it fucked my truck up. I wouldn't take a smarty if they gave it to me.
IMO, bully dog/tst/mp-8 is the way to go.
Luken 11-17-2006, 09:18 AM Like welndmn said, the filter system sucks...

I run their lift pump/filter system and it is awesome...

Tst, bully dog downloader (crazy larry), mp-8 (pressure box)
sps66 turbo, hts full billet tranny, GDP fuel system
stock injectors/stock cp3.
GloNDark 11-17-2006, 11:57 AM I had good success with the bully dog in 2 Duramax trucks. They never triggered the service techs either. I think I may try one in my cummins and see how I like it.

Not trying to be a prick but there is no such thing, they all can be detected just not in the same way. Not to mention claiming warranty on something that broke as a result of the mod and denying any mod was ever done is a felony. A felony would cost me my career, and it s not worth that. I agree some dealers will look the other way, and some may appear to do just that, but actually make note of the mods and wait until further claims to deny warranty. This way they can go back and have a history of your mods for legal purposes.
The auto will not tolerate much more power then stock so save up for a good build up.
vanguard_anon 11-18-2006, 05:00 AM What you bought is almost exactly my dream rig. You suck. :)
Doesn't it have 610 ft lbs of torque and 350 hp? I'd keep it stock. Even in stock form it has far more power than I need and I'd want to get 400k miles out of it.

That's not to the wheels....
hy_desert_4wheeler 11-18-2006, 03:58 PM That's not to the wheels....
The question was what the hp and tq were not what they were at the wheels.. Also not that it matters but I had 18500 total weight or a payload of 8640lbs on my trailer and ran Cruise control at 70 and never slowed on hills.. Next week I will try to make the 12950 rated towing capacity to see what that does..

Towing I love my truck. It flys up hills.
Its the day to day driving I would like more power for. Its not slow for its size, but I would like bit more get up and go power.

I kind of agree, even with my attitude, the truck doesn't have much get up and go above 70 mph. I think it's a gearing thing more than anything and I am pushing 35's with a 6" lift. It's got plenty of power and quickness around town though. Will pull away from most anything.

I don't think the new manuals will either. A friend told me the new 6 speeds are made from aluminum unlike the 05? and older iron cases. Supposedly they are having problems with them. So your kinda SOL in the transmission department either way unless you want to put an upgraded tranny in a new truck

never heard this. Only problem with the manual that I have seen is you will need a new clutch once you get above 500hp.
crashnzuk 11-21-2006, 10:06 AM Unless you're gonna tow really heavy, I would probably skip the gauges. Especially with an auto. I have done a fair piece of towing with my friends 06 QC, 4x4, 6spd 2500, and I can say you have to REALLY try, to get the pyro up around 1200. That is with a Lance 815 on the truck, pulling either of our trailers (one 2K, other 3K) with my sami on it. Not a huge load, but probably a typical recreational type load. As for get-up and go, we took his truck to Boise a while back, and passing on 95 out of Winnemucca was a breeze. Going 70 mph and stomping it to the floor to pass resulted in 90+ mph in a hurry. I was giddy about the passing power:D
Travis..
Honkylips 11-21-2006, 10:57 AM Gauges really aren't "needed" on a stock vehicle, but I think they're a cheap way to gain peace of mind. For $300 you can get an A-pillar mount and three gauges at www.dieselmanor.com
I have no affiliation with them, Ijust got mine from them and they were a pleasure to do business with.

did it come with everything to hook it up?
it seems like the only thing i might need is the tranny line to hook up the temp sensor? or does it come with that?
Red Chevy 11-26-2006, 06:36 AM So far, I'm happy with mine. Have 15,000 on the clicker with a few times pulling #25000+!!!. THe only thing I want to do to mine(besides bonbing the shit out of it:smokin: ) is add a set of bags on the back. Doesn't squat real bad till I drop my buddys '40 gooseneck on it. Sets it down level just with the wieght of the trailer.
Po' riggity 11-26-2006, 12:33 PM If you go gauges, go with diesel manor. I got mine from there and went with Fuel press. pyro and Turbo boost. I am stock as well with the exception of a straight pipe, but I love the peice of mind it offers.. I think total shipped was about $350, and came with everything, including an isolator for the FP gauge.

roundeye 12-03-2006, 08:36 AM Nice truck. I like the wheels and tires, what size are they?
Also, I have the same truck but with the 6 speed. My pass mirror quit working once I put it all the way down to see the rear tire for some reason.
The bluetooth phone is cool along with the GPS unit and satellite radio if you didn't get that.
Other than that, go see Trailer Guy and he can put the bad ass 5th wheel and goose neck hitch in it. He did an awesome job on mine. I think it's a B&W.
Call me sometime so we can do some peel outs!
Jeepmangled87 12-04-2006, 12:30 PM Strait pipe exhaust, edge jucie with attitude, AEM intake, new turbo, new intercooler, high ram from banks, RBP additive. Works great for me I get 25 MPG.

it says, "This modification was used because the box is very reliable and can be removed without a trace in less than two minutes, which could be handy for warranty work
