: Swapping 8.8, can I keep front ABS?

I'm swapping out my POS 35c for a Ford 8.8 and I don't want to go through the expense and the trouble of hooking the Jeep ABS up to the Ford axle. I would like, however, to keep the front ABS if possible. Question is for you guys who have swapped in an 8.8 in an ABS equipped vehicle: Is there any way to keep the front ABS while unhooking the rear ABS or are they tied together so if one is out then the other doesn't work either? If there is a way, did you have to do something to trick the ECU into thinking the rear ABS still worked? I want to keep ABS for wintertime driving. It's on a '94 ZJ.

my 8.8 has a plug on it for the ABS and i have heard that getting the Jeep ABS hooked up to it is fairly easy

sorry, no clue about the front

good luck!

I thought ZJ's of that era only had rear wheel ABS in the first place. My 94 sure did. And the ABS sucked to boot. On washboard roads, the ABS would actually propel you foprward instead of stop which made me feel VERY uneasy.

I'd much prefer good old brakes to ABS anyday, good weather AND bad. Bear in Mind, I came from Michigan, too... home of bad weather...

What do you think will happen if you slam your brakes, and the rear wheels lock but the front doesn't? Spinning around in the middle of the road is - I suppose - not the funniest thing to do in a ZJ.

My advice, for what it's worth, will be to disconnect the front as well. I know I would. As for the warninglight in the dash, there must be a bulb somewhere. Right?

Now I will return to my beer, as it is evening already here in Norway.

Hey when I took my POS ABS off my 93 ZJ I just pulled the fuses and took the Electronic Brake Control Module out. No ill effects other than I have normal brakes now (had this for over a year now). I live in Alaska where bad weather was invented. <IMG SRC="smilies/jeep2.gif" border="0">
