Big THANK YOU!!!!!! to: BOSSGRIP, ANDY WEST and ATROADER for there info and replys on the SM420 tranny and adapter experience..............as an update the NOVAK company now advertises there adapter "with lock-collar and no dissasembly of transmission required." I must admit that any Lathe would have a big problem cutting a snap ring groove in a hardened transmission shaft....I would also think that if it was accomplished it could cause a stress point for a crack development....HHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!
I follow this forum regularly and will look forward to future advise and info that I might also add. IE: I recently took the time and patience to carfuly layout and drill a series of holes on the sides of front fenderwells (CJ-5) to ventilate some of that #**^XXXX**%!!!<><>""" HEAT out frome under the hood( with headers and all) to keep from roasting my feet in the warmer weather.. I think that cut away fenderwells look cool with headers and would definetly let the heat out but for my use the mod I did keeps sticks rocks and small animals out.......Imagine a cheese grader look along the inside of fenderwell..7/16 holes.... A LOTTTTT!!!!! of deburring and rubber undercoat and it looks r3ealy good and allows a lot of air flow.....sorry no digital camera!!! Later:beer:   :emb: :emb: :p

I wouldn't expose the headers to the elements..(cracks and leaks) not to mention the looks wouldn't last long.... cut some louvers in the hood that's what I'm going to do for my v-8 conversion...heat rises anyway so I think it's best to have them up high....I haven't looked for them yet but I remember someone telling me summit has some that you can open and close...that would help keep the heat in when you want it ...this would help with those snow runs.

Hi again...Just noticed you where in Oregon....where are you at?...are you in a local club?

I'm in the Medford area . I used to belong to thr Deschutes 4-Wheelers before moving here and presently work too many hours to consider the club scene....although future plans look like I might check out the Grants Pass club.......the Jeep is going through major changes presently. I would consider a spring over conversion but I am beginning to think any further technical questions on this forum might just turn into insults......I do appreciate your posts however...they have been straight up.
Being a machinist by trade for over 30 years I work with lots of people with varying levels of knowledge....those who share knowledge, no matter how redundant it seems, are the most highly respected by the majority!!!

wow... I've never had a problem with asking questions and getting insulted it seems there are some people that push the issue...I think mostly for entertainment.;)
I wouldn't be afraid to ask questions around here when I need some questions answered. Sometimes you have to sort through the bullshit though.
Sometimes you'll get an idiot to flame you but that don't make it the opinion of the majority, and most of the time If you ignore him/her it will backfire on them.
You can tell when people are serious about there questions by
how they ask and the way they react to the answers....some people like to be flamed but I've never seen someone royally flamed who did'nt deserve it.
You seem to be a "forward looking" person who don't clown around so I took your posts seriously as did others(idiots excluded) reguardless of the "NEWBIE" status...
If someone don't like my post and gives me shit about the endless "search" function, I go to my profile and select to ignore them....if I don't get a responce to the post that would benefit me or others I delete it all together.

I'm not perfect and I'm doing some bazzar things to my suspension that I wouldn't dare ask any one of these guys about, because nobody I've ever known has tried it and I don't want to be discouraged...It's all hand built by me much like everything else in my life.
The great thing about this board is how quickly you can get responses due to the huge amount of traffic....that and a grain of salt can get you some great info quickly. So far I haven't found a board that responds so fast,if you know of one let me Know.

I too have my Jeep all over the garage and am in the proccess of machining parts on my $700 lathe while building an addition on the house under the crack of the whip of my wife :) it seems I'll never get to finish the jeep and test my Ideas.....but it will happen...hope to see you on the trails sometime.

Well thanks for the encouragement. I agree there are no more active sights then this one...... and I will have to say that your life and mine right now sound much the same I called the ad in the back of JP July issue for someone or some company called RUBE for a possible alternative source for adapters.......got an answering machine during there advertised business hours.so I don't know much about what they offer yet . I can't see steering away too far from Novak . Their quality is in my opinion the best yet...........
I guess from here I will post on the subject of SOA and put on my asbestos suit and filter through for some ideas on the subject.
Happy Wheeling.......

Here is another site I frequent thats more tailored to the older CJ'sJEEP (http://www.forumco.com/sparky/default.asp) It's not as active but good for buying and selling parts and getting related info.
