: Lift questions for 1971 FJ55

We have a very nice looking cruiser that I'd like to put a large enough lift for 33-35's without cutting the fenders up to make them fit but as little lift as possible. Just enough to keep em' from rubbing. What's everyone's experience with lift springs? I could just spring it over but I think that would be too much lift for this size of tire. So what rides nice and what doesn't?

Could be a good application for Alcans, custom lift springs to your specs.... search and you will find. If you run 35's, stock springs SOA are a nice ride.

The guys at Man-a-Fre are great people. The FJ55 spring kit they have is aweful. The front shock on the drivers side, is larger in diameter than OEM, and rubs on the steering rod.

I loaded 3 friends and gear in my '55, runnnig the Safari Kit (Man-a-Fre Kit) for a trip out to Panament Springs. Killed the suspension that weekend. The leaf spring bent and were ruined.

I'm currently running Ironman Suspension, but I wouldn't recommend them either. Lots of fitment issues.. The verdict is still out on reliabilty.

Alcan! Had them on my 55 and loved them. Any height/weight rating you want. totally customizable. They ride great and flex pretty good. I ran 35's on my 55.

SOA on stocker leaves. If you think it would be too much, you can always make your perches shorter.

To be honest, I'm running 33s on my SUA pig and that setup has gotten me rather snagged up with the leaves below the axle. I suppose I could learn how to drive, but to be honest I'd rather have to only worry about dragging the pumpkin across some rocks than the pumpkin, driver side leaf and passenger side leaf..

Currently its got some AALs in there and if I took those out and slapped the axle under there, all would be gravy with some 35s. I already get some slight rubbing with 33s.

1970 55 with the Man A Breath 4" Safari lift. Stay way far away from it!
The rear leaves are too short in length, and do not flatten under compression until the shackle goes from inboard,to past vertical. The ride is so bad that I wish I had kept my stock springs, and settled for smaller treads. I am very dissapointed with the $1,ooo+ I spent. I have considered selling my otherwise very cool 55. Side note: Anyone got their stock leaves they'd be willing to part with?

Good Luck

soa/ shackle reversal w/ stock springs and 35's works great. flip the springs around front and rear- nicely stretches your wheelbase and you only need to trim slightly in the rear, none in front. Tons of flex and pretty inexpensive minus driveshaft mods.

I considered a s/o, but I only wanted a 3-4" lift.
I got suckered in to Man A Breaths text about how great their "system" was.
The problem I face, is that the springs(rear) are too short and shackles are inward toward the axle. I don't want to move the spring hangar to compensate for the short springs.
I have even considered having the springs de-arched.
Any recommendations or 'SURE FIRE' cures? Anybody?
Thanks
