I don't have any time on the schedule for hunting this year, but I do love to Turkey hunt on the east side of Red Bluff. I usually go to an old friends family ranch, but there is a lot of open public land out there to hunt on. I've never went home empty handed. The birds aren't the biggest in the county, but the flavor is great and they cook up very moist.

Theres Spencerville wildlife area East of the airbase out of Marysville there that was good for turkeys. I got 6 out of there over the years I lived up in Chico.
Hoggsback Road area out of Red Bluff is good, many from there as well.
Pheasant is hit and miss in the wildlife areas since everyone in the world is there opening day and weekends after that. Oroville WR is where I hunted for many many years and always had good luck, but they wont be easy, a good dog/dogs is a must as it gets hit hard also. Most hunters are alright, but there are a LOT of jerks who think they own those areas also and yell & hollar at you to get off "their" area.
I dont mind giving these areas away as I will not hunt them again now that I have much better hunting grounds on ranches out here.
Dont be afraid to stop in at the rice field operations either, many will say no, but I have got permission from several of them for pheasant out of the Chico area.
There are also a lot of daily walk in areas around the Chico area that are good as well.

Thanks for the tips fellas! i've hunted a few rice fields out in the Lincoln area with some luck, but they seem to plow those fields early in the season... sux... anyways if anyone is ever in need of another partner just let me know!

I've heard there's decent turkey hunting around Collins Lake. I've never hunted them up there but have seen many when I was fishing.

There are so many Turkeys here in the east bay right now its not even funny. Only sad part is there is no place to hunt them. :(

I was at the VA medical center in livermore and the damn turkeys will walk right up to the door of your car. I would have snached on by the neck and drug him into the car... but the GF would have been pissed.

hahaha thats so funny.... i remember when i was a kid and those damn things would chase me on my rollerblades, and snip at my laces.... damn birds, i should have just grabbed one of thier necks and rung it!!!

Anyways i was thinking about going up by Collins Lake this weekend, anyone ever had any luck there, also where about is a "legal" place to go. Im not really familiar with that area! Or does anyone have any property that they wouldnt mind me hunting! Thanks Guys

(inserting my smart ass comment here)

I have a great spot to hunt turkey's and ruffed grouse, and ringneck's.

But you might have to fly here on a plane.

Sorry, i had to do that. Western Pennsylvania is perfect for hunting all of those. I saw a Ruffed grouse standing on a main road yesterday. I pulled my car right up next to it. Then I leaned out the window and dropped a penny right next to it. It just looked at me and walked away.

What a beauitful creature!

Happy hunting.
