Oh, I shot lots of guns.
binderbasher 11-19-2006, 06:50 PM Got the front fangs taken off, frame cleaned up. Tommorrow I will reweld everything the UN-BOOTIE-FABBED way.:p
johnnyx 11-19-2006, 06:55 PM I actually did something - though it's been a while....
Got my 2 bbl carb on the 152, and so far it purrs real nice. Just need to finish the linkage and it might see the trail here soon.
binderbound 11-19-2006, 06:58 PM Fri- let my red star lapse.:shaking:
Sat- wrapped up some little doo-dads on the scout so I could...
Sun- wheel!:)
MochaMike 11-19-2006, 07:20 PM Fri- let my red star lapse.:shaking:
LOL.
I did the same thing last week.
johnnyx 11-19-2006, 08:05 PM LOL.
I did the same thing last week.
Must be that time of year. My red star expired as well. I'm all current now though. :flipoff2:
YellowIH 11-19-2006, 08:06 PM Christmas shopping. Coulda bought a doubler setup with what we spent this weekend. :shaking:
Oh well. :flipoff2: Project is kinda stalled for now. Freaking cold and wet outside and me being lazy doesn't equal much Scout work.
Tahcustomscout 11-19-2006, 08:09 PM Friday I took my wife and kids to the movies to see Happy feet. $45. later my feet were not as happy as they once were.
Saturday I just hung around the house and did some prep work on my bumper.
Sat night I Went out with my wife and an army buddy and got pretty drunk. Had a blast!
Sunday, since I dont drink that much, I recovered from a light hangover in the moring and painted my rear bumper in the afternoon.
ih4ever 11-19-2006, 08:31 PM sat: went duck hunting... did not so well
sun: worked on the scout, got everything done, replaced diff gasket refilled everything, then connected the battery just to find out i had a dead battery:mad3: i disconnected the neg. so it wouldnt drain, and it still ended up dead:shaking: owell so its sittin on the charger ill have to try to start it up on weds evening... wish me luck:flipoff2: then its gettin everything ready for the 350tbi swap:smokin:
srscout 11-19-2006, 09:21 PM Worked my PT job Saturday (gotta pay for the Scout somehow).
Sunday I hooked up with a couple of the local Heep guys and Caddy Kid 472 and went to theSan Raffell Swell area of southern Utah. With my Scout and Houndmans 90 YJ we wheeled the Eva Conover road (maybe a 2 or 2+) and the Devils Racetrack (some real good 4-4+ obsticals).
Got some good pics of the Scout. I will post a link as soon as I get them downloaded and on the web page.
scout254 11-19-2006, 10:09 PM Pulled the passenger side saddle tank out of the scout... leaks of course.
Went to the junk yard to look at heater setups, in some toyota trucks and other rigs. I think I'll stay towards the "new" aftermarket ones that I posted earlier this week.
Mechanos 11-19-2006, 10:32 PM Looked for an axle housing.... didn't find one. Pulled some 63" springs off a Chevy.
Tired of my carb issues so I spent a few hours at JY and now have to get my @ss in gear and get it done.
Bill usn-1 11-19-2006, 11:50 PM Tired of my carb issues so I spent a few hours at JY and now have to get my @ss in gear and get it done.
OH boy...I have seen that a few times!!!
2 TB's and the 1" and 2" aircleaner spacers....you have been shopping.
I see the later model TPS on the TB also.
Good times ahead.
Diesel Smoke 11-19-2006, 11:55 PM Friday: Got done with my 3 day EMD class, the final test was a breeze, now I just need to complete a few more steps and I'll be advanced EMD certified:D! Bought some shotgun shells in preparation for Saturday. Got free beer at Mac's then drove home and kept drinking. In a semi-drunk stupor invited Binderbound over and ended up watching "Dust to Glory" for the second time.
Saturday: My gun club had a Turkey Shoot. Traps games and winners get a choice of big side of bacon, sausage, whole turkey or ham. I was off my game and some stupid shots cost me, so no goodies for me. My roomate ended up with some bacon and sausage, so our freezer is stocked. Spent the rest of the day getting our utility room ready for a reloading bench. By 7 that evening we had the press mounted and I was punching primers. I am really excited, we've been trying to get all the reloading stuff over to the new house for some time, and now it's here, so I can load away.
Sunday: WHEELED (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=528688). Had a killer time with Binderbound and Uglyscout, playing keep up with their rigs. I should note they were running locked with 37" and 36" tires and I was rolling in my diesel 31" Pro Comps Mud Terrains and a worn out trac-loc. Had a little damage, but all in all, a great day. Then came home and watched "Dust To Glory" again.
Been busy the last three weekends, so it was nice to just goof off.
Chief yelling alot 11-20-2006, 01:38 AM What kind of car?

Oh, I shot lots of guns.
Nissan ;)
SSGTWC 11-20-2006, 05:57 AM Nothing IH related, except thinking about them.
Still recovering from the second surgery done on my neck. Now if I can just keep myself from working on the T-all and the Scout, I should heal up.
NVScouter 11-20-2006, 07:56 AM Had Friday and Saturday off, had to work Sunday.
Friday got the drive train from my 78 out and most of the 68s undone and ready to pull.
Friday drove 7hours round trip. But got new 38s,beadlocks, fuel cell, and got to meet Hillbilly.
Hopefully I'll have the 345/T-19W/D20 in the 68 this coming weekend, then I can start suspension and see how those 38s are going to look. They already are as tall as the door handle on the stock 68 :grinpimp:
Cant wait to actually wheel and leave the e-wheeling for a bit!
uglyscout 11-20-2006, 08:19 AM Sat:
Bought lots of diesel for my Dodge so I could...

Towed a Traveller from point "B" back to point "A" for a second friend.

Towed a new to me, Terra from point "B" to my house at point "C".
Sun:
Wheeled! And got muddy/soaked. See other thread!
Shadow man 11-20-2006, 09:03 AM Went and performed a "snatch and grab" up in Salt lick city.
Picked up the Wife's 77 SSII I bought 10 months ago..
tsm1mt 11-20-2006, 10:01 AM Tired of my carb issues so I spent a few hours at JY and now have to get my @ss in gear and get it done.
I have a few piles like that in the shop.. I started into the harness, but then got sidetracked building an RTI ramp instead.. ;)
Speaking of that little project.. not a lot left to do. A-arms are almost done, then it's mud-flaps, and see if I forgot something..
Measuring the angles I need to notch the next hunk of 1.75 DOM for the second leg of the A-arm.
http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/PlainGallery/2006RTIRamp/DCP_0027.sized.jpg
Cleaned up the new-to-me '74, put the bumper back on, put on a battery cable clamp, a new rear shock stud..
Had a buddy come by for a test drive, and took some pictures and threw it on Craigslist..
http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/PlainGallery/2006Blue1974Scout2/DCP_0003_001.sized.jpg
Had a few folks come by to look at the flatbed on the Chevy, but it isn't sold yet.. I put it in the paper for $150 last week. Had one guy call and see if I had a tailgate...
As soon as I finish the A-arms and tie up loose ends on the ramp, it gets painted (along with the D70 shafts that were rusty and maybe the new inner fenders for the Travelette while I'm at it).. it can then leave the shop and I can get busy cutting up the Chevy (and/or get back to that TBI harness..)

IHC-6 11-20-2006, 03:34 PM Saturday - Cut up a tree that fell at my place during all the lovely wind and rain we have been having. Ugly stopped by and lended a hand moving wood, which made the job go faster. Muchas Gracias!
Sunday - Bought an EFI Scout so I didn't have to build one, and watched it rain, and rain, and oh... did I mention that it rained? :D
mountainguyed67 11-20-2006, 05:20 PM Cut and hauled down A load of Tamarack.Plus used the extra weight of the wood to pull two big trees across the tracks people were using to go around A locked OHV gate.

You know I once had this really good buddy who swore up and down he'd never own another Scout after buying his full size rigs. LOL:flipoff2:
Glad to here Moose's rig got a good home. I expect to see you on the snow run!

So, whatcha buildin?
Snoopy 11-21-2006, 11:36 AM EDIT: I forgot to include some stuff
Friday: went to junkyard and pulled another Ford D44R out of a truck, picked up a PS box.
Sat/Sun: Researched and found a new project. Should be buying it tonight.
Scout8hundred 11-21-2006, 12:11 PM Researched and found a new project.
So what are you building?
Snoopy 11-21-2006, 12:41 PM I'm going to build a quick-buggy. Something I can test some triangulated 4-link ideas on and sell quickly to make $$ for the IH version of the same. That's right, as bad as this is going to sound, its not an IH ~ so I won't bother ya'll by making a build thread here.
The plan is that I'll build two buggies in a relatively short period of time ~ I'm talking January as a finish date. A buddy of mine ~ Allen (he's the guy who fills my shocks for me) will be buying a similar rig and we'll build twins. I went to the junk yard and got two high-pinion D44s out of 76ish Fords (weld on c-bushing mounts) for the projects. My rig's already got a TBI350 in it, I'm picking up a TH400/D300 combo as well ~ then I'm going to use my D44R/9inch combo w/ twin 4-links, tube, SAW Coil-overs up front w/ Airshocks in back. Allens is going to be identicle rig but with an opposite paint scheme ~ so if my bug is white with black, he's going with black w/ white.
Anyway, the whole thing revolves around building something I can test a new 4-link front out on. Then I'll sell it, recoop the $$ with some extra. Then with the extra, I'll start on the IH version of the same. I don't want to get too specific, but needless to say ~ this is the first big step to a coil'd scout conversion ~ even if it doesn't include a scout right now.

Well, it is just a commuter car. It isn't like I am going to like the thing or wheel it or anything... :flipoff2:
Won't be on the snow run. Have a job to do swapping engines on a 56 S-120 that weekend. $$$ first. Play later.

And you didn't even stop and say hello!
My weekend, went and broke in the new quad up on Skyline. Got the T-cases and tranny installed and actually drove the scout. Now looking at redoing front shock hoops. The scout needs a new carb., Shroud ,hook up electric fans, and one rear spring and its ready to hit the trail again.
Harvester of Sorrow 11-22-2006, 09:01 AM The scout needs a new carb....
Hark...
You mean to tell my that sexy bitch of yours is still carb'ed...all that bling I would have thought you were a fuelie or propaned...

I think he's dual fueled with a carb. Seems I saw a pic with some forklift propane tanks in the bed.
I'd love to go fuelie or propane myself.....Brag about it Hark....we wanna know.
Docfranco 11-22-2006, 10:06 AM Sat- I pulled my atlas & crossmember to relocate it lower. I clocked the atlas back up and will be redoing my crossmember lower by about 4 inches, still above frame though. :p
Sunday- worked on erecting sunroom from a kit i bought. :D
harkinoff 11-22-2006, 04:33 PM Fuel injection. I wouldn't run it, seen to many die on the trail. Last one I seen die was on Coyote trail in Moab "computer failed because of heat".. Not a good trail to die or break on.
I run dual fuel and totally dig it! Run on gas , stock style Scout poly tank , If I need to run vertical switch over to the propane. Works flawless, no wiring no computer no hassel. I run a fuel lock for the gas a fuel lock for the pane and a primer for cold start on the pane. 3 wires running to 2 toggle switches. A 8 gallon forklift tank has lasted me for several days in Moab. I keep an extra tank at camp so I don't get price gouged at the local stores. The carb I'm running now is leaking gas out of the linkage area's "q-jet" Its friggin old and hasn't been rebuilt in 7 years. I'm going to bite the bullet and by one of the edelbrok q-jets... My propane setup is a model E with an impco 300A. I've also noticed the engine will run slightly cooler on the propane than gasoline. Of course oil will last longerl, No carbon deposits. The 383 I just built, I built it about 9:8:1 compression. Gives the propane a little more umph. The more compression the better they will run. My problem is that It still has to run on pump gas without predetonation problems. So you got to keep the compression within reason. Also the dual fuel gives you two fuel sources. Propane screws up drive out on fuel. gas screws up, drive out on pane :) Also you need to run hardend seats in the heads and really good valves. The propane burns really hot and will toast an older set of non hardened seats. Oh and I'm into my system now about
200 bucks! I guess this brags up the propane?

Yep. You covered it.
Not to be the bearer of bad news but, Edelbrock stopped making their Q-jets. I was looking for one a couple weeks (months??) ago and discovered same.

Still running the same old discount part store quad from the beginning some 7 or 8 years later. THere is a place on Ebay that rebuilds quads that looks promising. The link is bookmarked on the work computer......:shaking:
I haven't bought anything b/c I am still torn btw staying with a carb or taking the leap to FI or Propane. I like the idea of propane, but dislike the idea of giving up any bed space. I pack like a rat and the rear area is already pretty full. Guess I could find room for two forklift bottles.....

Are you going to do a build up on DNC website or general4X4 or anywhere? I'd still like to see a build up of the buggies even though they aren't IH's.
Saturday: Left for Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and came back Wednsday. Had an awesome time at the all inclusive hotel we stayed at. All inclusive meaning I spent almost all my time at the bar! They make some stiff white russians when you tip them right! I don't remember most of sunday through tuesday, but I'm pretty sure I had fun!

The build is going to be in the Gen or Hardcore Jeep forum. I brought home the test mule yesterday. Its a homely little YJ.

I can't believe I had to pay $1500 for it. I'm selling the doors, corner/rocker protection, front bumper, seats and interior bits, as well as the heater and dash componants to a couple guys local to me. I'll re-coop $1K from that
The only thing that will be left is the body (whick will be butchered) and the TBI350 it has in it :p! I'm going with a TH350, RMVB w/ compression breaking and RV gearset, then a stack in back. Coilovers up front, airshocks in back, Trussed/locked/alloy'd HP44 & 9" with 5.38ish gears, lots of tube. It'll be very similar build (but hopefully more family friendly) than the Band-Aid Buildup (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=461962)I did in Gen4x4 about 7 months ago.

bassdude 11-23-2006, 10:11 PM Eric's buggy. sweet.
Snoopy 11-24-2006, 08:44 AM I really need to get another picture of it. He had it professionally painted the same RED that it was before. Holy cow does it look awesome. Anyway, the build is a little down the road. I've got bumpers and a couple cages to ship first. I'm looking to start the build mid-december. I really need to move the POJ to the side yard. Not that its ugly...its just a jeep, and it makes me feel like a trader. ~ I can't tell ya how wierd it makes me feel knowing that I have a jeep closer to running than a scout. Its a sad-sad world.
BLK Scout 800 11-24-2006, 11:32 AM A jeep......... :barf:
Snoopy 11-24-2006, 01:30 PM A jeep......... :barf:
I know.... I know.... I could have said it was Led's and I was just buiding it for him...but I actually paid money for it and have a title. If I'm honest, I'll openly admit a queezy feeling when picking it up. As Ron White said: "Things that make you go....:barf:...Blaaa!"
Anyway, I don't want to muck up the IH forum with blasphemy. Ya'll know I'm a scout guy, but ya'll know we're saving for adoption. A jeep build will accomplish a couple things. (1) parts are cheaper and easier to get, (2) Reselling. Jeeps fetch much more money that Scouts do (and lets not kid ourselves, I'll sell it when done. (3) This will be a test platform for a new 4-link front. (4) My wife agreed to it and is letting me use money from saving as long as I replenish it (+50%) when I'm done ~ in fact that's the reason I'm doing it ~ that is, she's letting me!
She said that I need to sell it for twice what I built it for (parts) ~ and then half of the profit will go back into savings, the rest can be used towards my RockBinder build. And seeing that the MPFI system will cost me $2500-3000 alone ~ I'm probably going to have to turn 2 jeeps to make the RockBinder build what I really want it to be.
