binderbound 11-19-2006, 06:36 PM We wheeled! Uglyscout, Diesel Smoke, and I decided to pre run our clubs snow run route for this year. Along the way we dicided to try some 'new' trails in my area. Of course Diesel Smokes truck is a stock 80 diesel traveler. What were we thinking?!? At least it had some bitchen Pro-Comp M/T's.

you cant tell but his pass front tire is a foot off the ground and his rear passenger tire has dug a hole and is not touching anything. Yes, hes resting on his once perfect rocker. Open diffs are great:shaking: Notice the pressed in dent on his once perfect door too. God we're awful:D

Ugly scout had already turned around and was heading back to the road(because the trail turned into a quad trail after 200 yards), so we called him back on the CB to winch Diesel Smoke backwards. I was in front and couldnt pull him forwards, so back it was.

after winching we realized that Diesel Smoke was too close to Uglyscout. But he was up against a tree. So, he finally got to use the twin stick. With a little help from us, he spun right out of his parking spot.

I'm such a stud that I wear crotchless rain suits. More like rain chaps.

the pics dont show how wet it was. This log was about 20-22" around. Laying on the hillside. Yes thats water pouring out of it. We kept trying to get Uglyscouts wife to drink from it but she wouldnt.:flipoff2:
binderbasher 11-19-2006, 06:54 PM That looks like a blast. I am still waiting for rain/ snow. In cali we have hardly gotten a sprinkle.

I think they are generic semi truck store fender flares. I could be wrong though. Hopefully he posts up the pics that they took. Aparently my old lady thinks there are enough pics of me floating around on the interweb so she took NONE of my rig. Plenty of crotchless rain suit but no scout.
Diesel Smoke 11-19-2006, 08:23 PM I had one damn good time. Calls me up on Friday "Hey Chris and I are going to go prerun for the snow run you wanna come." I tell him I can't get the crawler, but I'd take the diesel. I almost bailed, but nutted up and decided to go, and was glad I did. I haven't wheeled the stocker in a long time, not since I had Rock Scout. Just a kick ass time, probably pushed the truck harder then I should have, it's got a few more battle scars now, but it's always fun reminding oneself how much trouble 31's and open diffs can get you into. Guess it's time for that spring over huh?:flipoff2:
ihcnut 11-20-2006, 12:13 AM Funny, a friend of mine and I were talking that some of the best wheelin time's we had were with stock Scout's and 31's. Some had open diffs, some had worn out power loks or trac loks but it was alway fun. Looked like a good time.
uglyscout 11-20-2006, 08:09 AM My flares are just standard flare material, Part # BX10D I think I used about 20 feet or so. I got them here:
Some crazy tow truck web site (http://www.awdirect.com/awdirect/finditem.cfm?itemid=7902)
As for the wheeling -- it was pretty cool. I tried to kill my battery by overloading the system and idling well below the required charging level... We had begun to pull Diesels battery to jump start me when it started back up.
Getting Diesel unstuck was a messy, muddy mess. Where I parked to winch him, there was a small creek running under my Scout and the passenger door opened into a 6 inch puddle.
I should have some picks up tonight.

Isn't that the truth. I had a fun time this summer in my "street Scout" on the trail, though, like DS, I hurt it, too. ;)
There's always my wife's stock 800 when I need a challenge.. :D
Man.. what a muddy mess. I'd be anxious for snow wheeling, too, if I had to wheel in that crap. :D
ihcnut 11-20-2006, 12:41 PM Snow should be coming to Helena pretty soon Tom. You get way more than we do over here but we're looking forward to it as well. Darrin just picked this (http://www.justih.org/Binder-Bench/showthread.php?t=8071) rig up for 500.00. He doesn't have too much to dump into it right off the bat so it should be fun to pull around. :D

We start serious snow wheelin' in January.
October through November is hunting season, so most of us are busy hunting, and the rest are not interested in getting shot at. Plus, they close most of our trails during hunting season anyhow. :(
Hunting season ends after Thanksgiving, so then November is shot.
December is our tree run (1st Sat) in the snow, but then there's a ton of family and work stuff with parties, including the club Christmas party.
But by the time the New Year rolls around, there's plenty of snow and everyone's itching to go play. :D
We're still playing in the snow in June and July most years.

Looks like a good opportunity to get some positive PR by getting the OK from DNR, then calling the papers and TV and let 'em know you're going to go up there and drag that thing out. :)

Yeah, since the axles are still there, it could be as easy as bringing in some extra wheels/tires, mounting them up and then towing off the trail to a waiting trailer.

Or drive the trailer right to the wreck and winch it on... It is in an easy access area. and it just happened had a tag on it from the cops with the 17th on it.
BUT --- I am sure it is stolen and the hoops to jump through to remove it would be a killer. It is most likey on Forest Service Land.

problem is that people see us hauling their junk out and suddenly it becomes 'more' ok to dump shit cuz we're just gonna haul it off for them:shaking:

You must have some real turds in Oregon.
Around here, the angle we're worried about is "We need to close this road - people just dump their junk cars up here, and if we put up a sign saying "road closed" that'll stop them from doing that.. "
The Mountaineers made a big splash in the paper by winching three dead rigs off a trail, with the FS's approval. Took a few months to get approval, and half a day to get it done.
Such is the way of the Forest Service.
I'm surprised they didn't need to file an EIS and get the Wilderness Association to sign off on the deal before getting approval.. I'm sure the derelict cars were a prime habitat for some endangered furry critters.

1st Recline Bn 11-21-2006, 06:40 PM Assless rain chaps! Where can I get a pair? The wheeling looks like killer fun it gets that way down here but alot more mud .
Damn shame that the FS has so much red tape that you can't clean stuff up without begging. keep on keeping on in the PNW.

Do you know where Colton is? Fairly easy to find, just head out of Colton towards Estacada, a good forest service map of the area yeilds all sorts of interesting terrain.
