I know that everyone here is automatically going to scream D60 or 14 bolt, but i am under the impression that those may be to big for my application and please correct me if i am wrong. so is a ford 8.8 inch worth having? or how about dana 44s? i am going to be running a 38 inch iroks with a 4.0 liter power plant. and is an exploder rear axle realy a direct bolt-in into a yj?

What about helping a brother out? Not sure about the direct bolt in on a YJ, but in my mind nothing is a direct bolt in! I am sure you will have to do some fab work to make it fit. If you can search and you will find a lot of info on the Ford 8.8 & Dana 44. Not sure about the Dana 44 with 38" tires, unless you do a lot of mall crawling! But then again, there are a lot of people out there running that set up with great success and some that :nuke: all the time!

for fuck sake this is the newbi room leave the guy alone, thats what this room is for. ppl without the know how to come and learn and share. its like some ppl just like to float around and start shit for no damn reason. go back to chit chat. flip off

jeepman hit it pretty good. if your are hard on the gas and like big rocks you might what some 60s. but like it was said there are guys who wheel the piss out of 44s and never have major issues. i would invest in a good set of axles and ujoints and run a 5.13 or 5.38 gear and go with a set of fullwidth axles for a big tire and stock wheelbase. imo

Hey man I am doing something similar and I decided to go with a 14bolt rear end with a 44 front. You can get away with a 44 or 8.8 in the rear but like everyone has said, its pretty hit or miss if you're going to be blowing stuff up. Sounds like you dont want a 14bolt for some reason but they are really worth looking into because they are so cheap and easy to work on and getting them shortened is not that big of a deal. A 60 up front would be ideal for 38 inch tires but the cost puts them out of my budget and if you just run an open carrier up front a 44 should be fine.

If it were me I would make sure the rear is a minimum of a built 44 or even better a 14 bolt. For a front since it doesn't get as much power you should be able to get away with a 44 with good success.

It depends if you like the gas. I ran a dana 44 and 14bolt combo in my yj with 37s for several years and the 14bolt held up, but I broke the 44 several with the 4.0 in my yj. If you have the money now I would put a 60 upfront and call it good. Depending of your driving style you might be able to get away with a 44 and 8.8, you just have to deside how you are going to drive the rig.
