i have a '76 EB d44 that i'm fixing up for a swap. the dust shields fell apart in pieces when i took the ends apart. is it worth finding a set of used ones to use, or should i just run it without them?

I took mine off after I got small rocks traped between the guard and the disk. Happened twice on the first trip after the swap.
on the other hand, my dad has had them on his for years and never had a problem.
