: EB High-Clearance winch mount????

My EB has an 8274 mounted on the same tree pushing JBG bumper that came on the Bronco when I bought it. It sticks out way too far and I constantly hang up because of the bumper and have to back up.

I'd like to see pics or hear ideas for a winch mount/ bumper that moves the winch up and maybe provides for the possibility of sliding over rocks instead of hanging on them. Does anyone have advice?

I'll post pics of my EB after I leave work today.

I've got the 8274 too and I built my own front bumper with all of those things in mind. I wanted a good approach angle and didn't want it hanging down too low. I made it out of some 2x8 rectangle tubing. It might not be the best design, but it was easy to make and functional. Here are some pics.

Cut a hole in the grill and cut the frame horns off, push it back until it hits the radiator :)

Better yet, cut a hole in the grill, put the radiator in the back and put the winch all the way up to the fan. That's the direction I'm going

I like the 2x8 tube ideal

If you don't/can't fab one, American Bronco offers a bumper that lowers the winch cradle quite a bit, and is a high clearance bumper.

Why would you still have the fan there if you're moving the radiator to the back?

OK Smart Guy, you got me! Put it all the way back to the fan PULLEY. Better?

To help keep the winch cool!!:D :D

Gummi Bear, something like that would work too, but I'll be building it myself. I don't think anyone makes a bumper for a bronco that has 18" taken out of the grill. The 2x8 idea seems like a good idea right now.

68crawler, I do like your design, but I want to raise my winch and build a slider. Do you use your bumper to slide over rocks?

Yeah I've used it as a slide a couple of times. I put a skid plate under the bumper that follows the angle of the bumper down under the the frame (if that makes sense) You can kind of see it in my last pic. So if I drive up to something steep, the bumper will slide up/over the rock.

I have a low profile winch, but it could be easily adapted.

One other thing you could do is adapt a bumper like I did for my rig. I've got a TJ front bumper on there, that has 2x4 brackets welded into it, and it bolts to my frame. I plan to bob the bottom corners off of my grille when I push the front axle forward, so it won't look quite as out of place then. It's 47" wide, and at no point is it below the bottom of the framerail. I keep it touched up. Both my wife and I have bonked it pretty hard on the trails. It was designed by a friend of mine, and put together by another buddy. He's got a few left over. They're not too tough to adapt to fit on the EB.

I'm hoping that since Yahoo reorganized, I can hotlink this pic. If not, it's in this album:

Yeah, mine isn't lower than the framerail, but it sticks out at least a foot from the grill. just trying to get something up higher than the bottom of the grill with the lowest part of the bumper angling down to the bottom of the frame.
