: Anyone running: 392+T-35 (2wd)+Divorced 205
Sugar Bear 11-21-2006, 11:05 PM In planning my build I've realized that running two cases may be to long and too labor intensive. I am cosidering getting an IHC T-35 with a 7.xx granny 1st Gear and running My divorced 205 behind it. All this behind a 392 and over rockwell axles. Anyone running this tranny/T-case combo? If so how's it working for you?
472Scout 11-22-2006, 01:18 AM I think that's a great idea. You'll have upwards of a 90-1 crawl ratio and plenty of strength without spending major bucks. Rear Driveshaft length and pinion clearance will need a little thought but overall a very doable drivetrain.

I am gonna be running rockwells. With the top loading design, I think I should be fine w/ Rear DL angles even with the shorter driveline. Would you agree? Now I just have to find that t-35 2WD! Good thing I have a lot of connections in the Heavy truck industry! I am pretty sure I know where I can find a couple though I may have to pull them myself. Thanks for your input.
472Scout 11-23-2006, 06:21 PM DL angle will be fine, but I don't like really short driveshafts regardless of the angle so I would move the rear axle back 10 inches or so. That will also solve the SII rear overhang problem. Obviously you'll need to move the fuel tank. If I remember right you'll need the T35 bellhousing and linkage also. Just a tip.
tsm1mt 11-24-2006, 10:24 PM I'm running a build 392 in front of a 2wd T-35 right now.. and plan to add the NP205 before too darn much longer... in my hauler. :)
I also have a 3spd Brownie I keep pondering using but probably won't. :)
Even without low-range, my Travelette makes my Scout feel like it's geared too tall.

Wanna sell it to me? :D

I should - I don't seem to be making any plans to run it.
It's a Brown-Lipe. 3spd, though I only found 2 speeds (and neutral) - haven't opened it up, but it's supposed to be 1:1, 1.3:1, 1.5:1 and I found 1.5:1 missing. I was going to use it as an OD for my Travelette, running it backwards.
I've just about made up my mind that 4.30s, 31s, and 3500rpm at 75mph isn't a bad way to go.. and the last thing I want to have to explain to my wife is that the bang she just heard was the rare Brownie going BOOM in the middle of Utah because her idiot husband thought it'd handle his monster 392 and the 7:1 T-35..
Granted, it has much larger U-joints than anything I run, and is probably up to the job.. I just haven't found the need to overcomplicate things (strange thing for me).

What did you get that T-35 out of or was it stock in your travelette. I am gonna start searching the old truck wrecking yards for one in the near future.

My info is that the T-34 and T-36 were offered (along with the T434 T436 IIRC, the 74/75 versions) in Light Line rigs (like my Travelette), but not the T-35.
My T-35 came from a '69 Loadstar and sports a passenger side PTO that might make my front driveshaft interesting. :)

Well, I have a truck salvage yard near by. I will start with that premise try to get everything I need. Do I need the Bell housing or will the one off of my t-19 work? If possible I think I am gonna try to get the bell, linkage clutch and PP. I may take the drive shaft too to make a short shaft between the tranny and t-case. Crossing my fingers. I do also know where there is a lot that has a bunch of old IHC trucks on it. It's 110 miles away but well worth the trip if i can get what I need!

You need the bellhousing. Might take the driveshaft - the T-35 uses a flanged output, like most CVs, so you'll need the yoke on the driveshaft end that bolts to it. $25-ish part from Spicer, IIRC.
My bell is setup for hydraulic clutch, which worked out well, since my '74 had been converted from cable clutch to hydraulic by a PO, though the slave cylinder sticks out a bit more than I wanted it to - so I blistered the trans tunnel cover to make it fit.
I think I'm going to try cutting down the bracket slightly to move the slave cylinder inboard a bit when I pull it out and do the 4x4 swap.
In a truck, the 4spd uses a 1" longer intermediate driveshaft than the 5spd does when used in a 4x4 configuration.
I'm just going to hang the NP205 offset to the rear 1" so I won't have to do anything with the donor intermediate (from a '74 200 4spd 4x4), as a bonus, since I'm running a 60 front, the 1" back on the t'case will mean the front shaft won't need to be shortened, either (from the same '74 200 4x4 with a D44 front donor).
Rear will need cut down again no matter what (already had it shortened once for the 5spd swap).

Sounds good. I am going down to "truck parts" tomorrow on my lunch break to peek around the lot for the gear I need. I found a buyer for my t-19, dana 20 and the PTO winch setup (made by ramsey for the Scout II) The proceeds from that sale should more than take care of the cost of this tranny! I already have the Divorced 205 and the dodge crossmember. So once I get this tranny I should be ready to set up my drivetrain.
Sugar Bear 11-30-2006, 11:45 PM I found my transmission today! I will be picking it up tomorrow. It was at a heavy truck parts lot still attached to a IHC gas engine. I got the Transmission, Bell Housing, Clutch, Pressure Plate, and flywheel all for $200.00. The transmission has an e-brake on the yoke with the lever still attached. That will be nice since I planned on putting pinion brakes on my Rockwells. The only thing it's missing is the shifter. I should be able to find one without too much trouble but... anyone have one they want to get rid of?
Also got confirmation that from a buyer that I have my T-19/D20 combo sold. That will make the wife happy!

Wasn't lucky enough to find the driveline attached, You have a pic or better yet a part number for yoke on the driveshaft side?
Edit: I lied, after I got it home, I realized I had about 5 inches of the rear driveline. The yoke is there!
This t-35 also is set up for a hydraulic clutch. looks like I need to do a conversion as the thought of working a manual clutch 12" off-road already is making my left knee hurt!
You have any pics of the conversion done on you rig? Any pointers you could provide would be very helpful.
