High5 05-07-2002, 07:10 PM man don robbins toy is what i am looking to build out of the 70 fj40 i just bought! i want to wait till later this year to start it but you posting these pic's isn't helping me any!!!!:D
I towed with my 62 for awhile, with the 3fe and then chevy transplant. That is a long way to tow with a that suspension.
cruiserman 05-07-2002, 09:27 PM That's hardly a stock rig. Look at that custom front grille and those 31" BFG AT's. :flipoff2:

Yeah, tell me about it! I think mine needs to look a whole lot like that!
rustyb 05-09-2002, 10:48 PM Hey Nolen, it looks like that guy did the same hack job as you did on the siderails of the trailer. Maybe he needed some angle iron to repair frame damage too.:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :D
LC Hamma 05-10-2002, 09:32 AM I've wondered why Don & Tracy still keep the tried & true SU
w/shackle reversal on the front & link type suspension on the rear  'Ya don't see that too often on those Pro Rock
rigs. :rasta:

When they build their new rigs, you can bet that will be gone. Until then, they run Hydro rams on all 4 corners that force articulation.
They origionally set them up that way for stability.
I heard them both commenting about their Reversal towers on the front of their rigs hitting on stuff at Pro Rocks.
Robbins' rig doesn't hit on much with the 44's though :D

Its Joel McClure from Emtreme Image Off Road
Nanuk 05-14-2002, 12:04 PM I remember seeing Robbins rig on the cover of 4WD&SU almost 10 years ago.
It was a tad different, but the same color.
I thought how I wanted to build mine like his, I'm still trying.:rasta:
wngrog 05-14-2002, 10:27 PM That one on the trailer at the top of the page is Robbin's old Cruiser. He still owns it and let's that dude drive it.
It has a Big Block with a Blower!
Funny!

BensonMN 05-21-2002, 11:06 AM Nolen--
Did you get the dudes name from MN?
Those don't look like MN plates on that 62??
60seriesguy 05-21-2002, 11:45 AM I had this dicussion (SOA vs. SUA) with Dave Gore (Renegade Fabrication), who did a lot of the early work on Tracy and Don's FJ40's in Phoenix. He always told me that for the kind of trails these guys were running in AZ, you wanted to keep the COG low, gain height from tire size if possible. Lots of really wicked off camber, lots of loose climbs.
JackA 05-21-2002, 12:36 PM Here in AZ you definitely need a low COG. Don and Traceys cruiser are what I would like to build one day. For now I got my tube 4Runner. Those guys are great. They have built the majority of the tough trails here. I love it.
Funny thing about the towing. When I was on my way back from the ARCA event in Farmington last fall, I saw Don Robbins towing that huge cruiser with a mint FJ40 on 35's. He was creeping up the mountain grades. It looked dam cool though.:D

I saw him towing with it too....made me reaize he was one of the "working men" in ARCA!
