No silencer ring on a 7.3, those are on the 6.0. If you want more wistle open up the exhaust.

You can get it to really whistle with a 4" exhaust.

straight pipe it and get the big napa air filter... it won't be quiet anymore ;)

Put a glasspack on it. It'll really sound good and probably give it 10 to 15 percent increase in horsepower. Oh, but make sure that you put a huge stack on it too, that'll really help.

I did the glass pack too. I LOOOOVE the sound. Also for a some more Turbo whine you can remove the sound sheilding form the drivers side of the boost tubes. Just remove the the pipe and peel the foil lining off, then use some Goo Gone or some type of adheasive remover and a wire brush to get the rest of the insulation off. Then buff it up a little bit and reinstall. I looks 200% better, and a louder whistle as you get into the go pedal.

I hose clamped a stethiscope to my turbo housing and extended the ear piece into the cab with some surgical tubing... now I have the most awesomest sounding turbo out of EVERYONE  :D

Or you could run the exhaust straight up through the hood like mud racers do.

My vote goes to removing the heater core and piping it straight into the cab...:smokin:

My guess is your talking about the sound insulation around the pipes. Many have done this and yes it will make your turbo whistly much louder. I personally haven't done it as it provides nothing in the way of form or function but that's just me.

My opinion is that insulation is there to combat heat on that intercooler piping, not sound... but whatever. If you want some real turbo whistle put on a ats compressor housing or wicked wheel with a big ass air filter and exhaust. Or you could be ghey and just remove your hood and I'm sure the turbo will sound much louder :flipoff2:

I beleive you meant to say, "make sure that you put TWO huge stacks on it...comin' directly up outta the bed."

Gut the EBPV, buy aFe's 4" system on E-bay ($265) I think. 3" Downpipe, 3.5" around the corner, and 4" the rest of the way, no muffler or cat.
Throw the K&N in the trash and do the Napa BHAF. The K&N will toast your engine!

I second that.

 Yeah, measuring 13' tall to the ground with 22 degree tips pointing out to the sides.

I couldn't agree more. I'm not a huge fan of K&N filters because of that reason. I always find more dirt in a intake behind a K&N than just about any other filter on the market. The sad part is, I have a K&N on my wheeling rig. Of course, I don't really care if the little 2.5L blows up. Good reason to put in the 5.0L that I have, or a Hutchins built rotary.

I was told by several Ford Techs that the insulation was for sound issues. The eariler fords did not have it and people complained the turbo was too loud. If it was for heat reasons they wouldnt have put it on the "Hot" side of the intercooler. The "Cool" side does not have any sound insulation because it is past the intercooler which muffles the sound.

I think the original poster was looking for some cheap ways to get a little more turbo whine, because some people like it, others don't. Yea big exhust systems do work and so does a Whicked Wheel and an ATS housing but they all cost big money. Not every body has an extra $400 for an over priced cat-back system (if you have a cat). I like the sound of the straight pipe on the stock exhust or just a glasspack.

I also agree with the big NAPA filter. I haven't done it yet but I have heard that you get more of a whoosing sound, especially if you let off the go pedal.
all you need is the filter (about $35 at Napa, sorry I don't have the part number but I can get it for you if you want it) and I beleive a short section 3" or 4" exhust tubing to connect the filter to the intake tubing.(I can also check on the exact size if needed).

You could also remove the hood insulation for a little more whine. :flipoff2:
