I am looking for pics or help in mounting an aftermarket radiator in my FJ60. I am trying to mount a larger radiator due to my 350 swap. Any help pics, or advice would be great. Thanks

I have some pics of a howe 19X31" aluminum radiator mounted in my fj60 here:http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31071

they don't show the radiator too well but it was a pretty simple install. I installed a 2"x2" steel channel (full length of rad.) bolted to the frame rails & cut nochtes out to clear the power steering lines. I then got 2 rubber bumpers (1.5" dia & 1.5" thick) & screwed them to the body @ the top of the radiator lined up w/ the tanks. Then I bend some 3/4" x 1/8" aluminum as top hold downs that pull the radiator tight up against the rubber bumpers & screwed these to the stock upper radiator/ hood support w/ 2 self tapping sheetmetal screws. I put some weather stripping bettween the bottom of the rad. & 2" tubing for dampening. it turned out to be a real clean & simple install. I held the radiator aprox 1.5" off the body/ stock rad. support so I have room to install a LARGE tranny cooler between the condenser & radiator. I still have to add some 1.5" sq. foam weather stripping between the body & the rad. & build a shroud. I might be able to get pics in the next few days.

Hey, you the man:-) That was what I was lookin for. I have had several ideas but wanted to see/hear first hand experience. What fan are you going to use? I just bought a Lincoln Mark 8 fan. 3500 cfm with a shroud all one piece for $150 delivered. Thanks again and any further pics would be great

No prob... its the second alum rad I've mounted in a 60. the first one I built a frame & bolted it to the old rad bolts & to the core support. although this way is not recommended by howe, I didn't have any problems in the 2 years I've run it. I'm going w/ a heavy duty fan clucth and a 20" fan blade. Right now I'm running just a flex fan & it will hit 220 at idle. I think w/ the fan clutch & shroud it should run cool in 115d+ weather w/ the a/c on & towing  I would go electric bu they are expensive (not comparted to a new fan clutch!!) & if your thermostat malfunctions it will kill your battery (been there done that). if you need some more pics let me know. Glad I could be of some help!!!

Hey Tim, just run a stock 4 core with a Flex-A-Lite and a good shroud and you should be fine;) Just my humble opinion:D

Hey 60, Thanks again for the info. An pics or fuether advice would be very welcome. I think I understand your mounting system but does the rubber bumper sit on the side tanks? If so don't they get hot? Maybe I am missing something here. I think I am going with you method and a couple of other things I have thought about. I will post pics if it all works out. Later

yeah the rubber bumper sit against the tanks & the top straps hold the tanks against the rubber bumpers making everything very well isolated. the heat hasn't affected the rubber yet & I don't think it wil be an issue at all. I'll try & get some pics in the next couple of days.
