I have a 72 FJ55 LandCruiser wagon, with a GM350 engine and a turbo 350 tranny. I am in the process of replacing my radiator and adding a vintage air airconditioning sytem. I am also planning on adding a new tranny cooler.

My question is-- what size tranny cooler do I need?

I live in Arizona, where it is very hot, and there are large moutains. I also use my LandCruiser to tow my ski boat. Because of this, I was going to try and get the largest cooler I could reasonably fit in front of my AC condensor. Perma cool has an 18x10.5x1.5 that I was considering--

but now my AC guy is telling me that putting this large a tranny cooler in front of my AC condensor may screw up its cooling ability. He recommed I get a smaller B&M stacked plate super cooler. They have one that is only 11x5x.75 and its rated to 16,000GVW.

Would a tranny cooler that small really be big enough? It seams like they have to exagerating the performance of their coolers. B&M also has one that is only 11x8x1.5 and is rated to 28,000 GVW--- isn't that the size of a school bus?

So, I would appreciate any suggestions as to the size and capacity of the tranny cooler that I really need-- and I would rather be safe than sorry. And if you can recommend one that allows good air flow, I would appreciate that.

BTW, my radiator does not have an integral tranny cooler, so this would be my only one. And I thought about adding a deeper pan, but I don't have clearance for it. And I also thought about adding an external filter just to add more fluid capacity, but I don't know if that would really make a difference either.

thanks
