: Cheap 100:1 for 118 wb??
That Mick 05-07-2002, 04:46 PM disclaimer, I'm bored off my gourd and off my rocker (actually, I'm missing both of them:flipoff2: )
Thinking about eventual powertrain set-ups for da Terra. I want to do Diesel for a few reasons.
Anyhow. Detroit Diesel 4-53TA/N.
and here's where i start wondering.
T-35/6 (7.5 and 6.32 lows) Approx.
divorced eft hand drop NP 205 (1.96)
Married right hand drop NP205 (1.96)
D-44's (3.54's) current, but I don't want to go any lower than 3.73's.
My math says that would give a 102:1 low with a quite a few choices from there.
I don't want to use a 203 doubler because of cost, though it would be simplest. Anyone know of any 205/205 combo's like that??
Any other problems??
Hayraker 05-07-2002, 04:58 PM A friend of mine had problems twisting driveshafts pushing 3.54's with a 4:1 transfer, and granny gear transmission. It puts all of your extra leverage before the driveshaft, kind of like using a 3 foot cheater bar on a ratchet with a 3/8 drive extension turning a 3/4" bolt. When in a bind something else gives before it turns.
That Mick 05-07-2002, 05:02 PM I thought of that, I'm not sure how much of a problem it would be. with that motor, I can't go very low in the pumpkin or I'll loose all top speed, as is, 3.54's and 33's would give 59 mph, running flat out redline.
Old Scout 05-07-2002, 05:09 PM A 4-53t IS 1300LBS!
what about :
4-53T, backed by a fuller 5 spd, with a 3 spd"brownie" to a 205.
That Mick 05-07-2002, 05:11 PM odd, the 4-53TA/N that sat in the old man's F-350 weighed in at ~900, heavy but not unbearable.

Stick with a gasser, Matt!!
That said, if you MUST.. your easiest choice is probably a 6.2L Detroit. I even know where there's a 6.2L/Auto equipped Terra you could just buy...
A 6.9/7.3 would look much more at home though. :D

You're going to use the SAE setup on the T35/6 then?

Where's the married right-drop NP205? Married to the left-drop NP205? Married to the T35? ( )
I know of a couple NP203s for sale cheaply in Bozeman..

Are you running an auto or stick?
How about a 345 --> 727 --> Jeep Dana 300 (clocked up out of the way - figure this out before you finish putting the new floors in) with a divorced NP205 behind it.
You'll probably be able to swap the front DS to the rear, and the rear to the front, though you'll probably also need a carrier bearing on the front.
Simple, cheap, effective.
Insist on a 4spd? Lop off the front output of a Dana 20 and do the same.
Upgrade option would be Tera gears for the halved Dana 20.
Or.. get a truck like mine, and put a 5spd in, divorced 3spd brownie, and an NP205.
I think my brownie is only 1.2 / 1 / 0.8 or 0.7 ratios.. so I guess I won't be below 100:1 in the tow-rig.. dang. :D

The point of using the detroit is I can get my hands on a running lightwieght version for free, I can also get my hands on a 3-71 for free, a 3-53 for free, or a old Cat motor out of a D-3:D The Cat is too heavy, too little power, and i don't want to fuck with the pony motor. I'd have to pay money for a 6.9/7.3. Besides, Detroit's don't have an injector pump to go out.

Left drop.

Hmmm.

is a stick and it's going to stay that way.
