alright I am going to attempt to make a rear bumper that I can mount a spare tire to in the near future and would like to see some pictures of other people's designs. I have a 74 fj40. What thickness of tubing/ metal are you using and what did you use to make the upper part swing out? details please and pictures are awsome.

Here is one I made for a CJ, looks identical to mine on my 40.

Main bumper is 3x6, then 2" square tube and so on. All of it is 1/4" except the 2" tube.

Hey Dustin, how do you account for the movement between body and frame in the hinges? Or is it not really an issue?

Here's a link to a site that caters mostly to 80 series, but he sells a spindle assembly you can use to make a spare tire carrier that swings solely on your rear bumper.
