: does a YJ axle fit under an XJ without mod except for perches

Since its not a Jeep axle it should...you just need to weld new perches for the rear or new coil buckets and arm brackets for the front...like you said:D

If the custom 9 inch is set up for a YJ the brakes and everything should just bolt up. I know this because I put a 9 inch in my YJ and I had to use the e-brake cables from an XJ for extra length.

Hopefully you have enough lift to keep the back of the 9 inch from smashing the front of your gas tank.

I measured a 9" ana my dana44....the 9" is about 1" shorter

Did you see MJR's(the white woody) custom 9" while we were at JV? Pretty sweet axle.

got the axle all fixed, just a bent axle shaft....go figure......yeah a 9" has about 1/2" better ground clearance too. although the 44 is a sweet axle forthe XJ...
