What should I do next? Do I need a down brace on the long support? Weight is my main concern, and it all needs to be removable (Bolted to the frame)

http://www.alaskaoffroad.com/images/Tech/cage/cage_side.JPG

I also need to deign some kind of bed, that is aproximately 12 inches off the highest point of the frame. Can anyone modify these pictures and re-post them for me:question:

Finish the flame paint job on the back of the cab:D

Thats a good idea. I hadn't thought of that, but I think that I will do it, now that you mention it. The overspray has to go anyway. I was going to put the bed sides back on it so that the flames would be complete.

But I like your idea better. Thanks

Nice chop on the front fenders. I have been thinking about something like that. Can't wait to see the finished product. I was too busy looking at the front, I almost missed the chop on the bedsides.

Chris Alston's Chassisworks (http://www.cachassisworks.com/) has a kit for swinging door bars in a roll cage that I have thought about using for a rear down bar coming from the cab.

The front bars on their Chevy II kit mount neat, too.

It looks like youl need some support at the rear outside corners.

I like the chop job.

Email me if you are ever up this way. Wheeling is really catching on up here lately. More and more I am seing purpose built rigs on the trails. I have noticed a bunch of toyotas with ditch witch (terra) tires that are being used for moose hunting rigs. Light, versitile, capabile, and most importantly, CHEAP!

That pond is at least 20 feet deep and has a vertical bank. http://www.colute.net/cwm/cwm/cwm/eek2.gif

Damn it! You have the eye for sweet Silly looking shit . I guess I am partial to the existing cage, SINCE I JUST FINISHED BENDING IT! Oh well. I wish I had pm'd you earlier.

I would have bent a main hoop like you suggested, but, as im sure you know, its a BITCH to make multiple bends on a long section of tube without any help. I had to put my main hoop back in the bender twice. Major PITA by yourself!

Here is what I accomplished today.

I dig it.

as far as the big hoop thing....just make 2 pieces. ID tube them in the center then weld when it's all perfect :D makes things easy!

either way it looks good!

damn it! now after looking at your chop some more I am thinking about hacking it all apart and starting over. maybe I should never have pm'd you http://www.colute.net/cwm/contrib/edoom/let_it_all_out.gif

Got any ideas on how I can make due with what I got? I think I will at least cut the outer bed bars off and make them come back on an angle similar to your Chop. That would improve the looks considerably. I was going to do that originally but pussed out. This is my first tube project.

edit: I wanted to maintain aprox 12 inches from the frame on the bed for tire clearance and to have enough room for a HUGE fuel cell.

I really can't think of anything that won't clusterfuck it. It looks fine now. I think if you do anything else just chop it all off and start from scratch. That the way we all get good! :D you can reuse a bunch of it as stringers and crossmembers so no big loss other than time but what is this sport if you don't have time ;)

Nice job on the adjustable rear spring perches! Actually, the rear in general is sweet!

As for the cage, I like what Silly did. I know you have a lot of work in it, but I'd scrap what you've done now and go with Sillys design. Do it now or regret it later.

I think I will waste some more time today and see what I can do with what I have so far. Most likely I will be tearing it all down and going with Silly's design. I think that would definately look the best. I dont know if I justify going backwards for just for looks. I probably dont really even need much roll protection since I have never rolled or even seen anyone roll. If I get a sweet cage built, I will take care of that asap!

Did you check out http://www.alaskaoffroad.com/suspension.htm for more pics of the spring mounts. I still have to machine the square plate so that its round with two small round tabs sticking out for the u-bolts that will hold the springs on.

That lower hoop sticks out far enough, why don't you mount the the skins of your box sides on there?

What about adding to your existing cage like this

Thats the plan, for now anyway.

Thanks Grimbo. That looks good. What program did you use to draw those tubes. Looks a lot better than my pink and green lines. Ive been using fireworks but am very new to photo editing.

here is the latest, and final unfinished version.

I made the second hoop a little wide on the top so that it will be easy to tie the rest of an exo into it in the future. After the summer wheelin' season maybe.

On to front bumper, nerfs, and engine and t-case x-members...

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.. Ill keep ya posted if your interested.
