Does the Isuzu 3.2 and GM engines used in the Isuzu's share the same bolt pattern? Just curiuos if a 700R4 would bolt behind a 3.2?

The 3.2 has the GM 60* pattern. I'm running a 700R4 behind mine from a '86-87 2.8L S-10.

Bolts up pretty nicely

I like it a lot :D

I had upgraded servos installed (corvette I think) and a shift kit. It shifts like a rock. It took a while to get the TV cable dialed in, but I have it shifting nicely. The lower first gear doesn't hurt either.

I might feel differently if I was driving it daily. I haven't gotten the speedometer connected yet, but I haven't really put in a lot of time trying. I did have some clearance issues with the Dana 300 I used. Short of a custom adapter, the Isuzu t-case will not bolt up to the 700R4. I used the Dana 300 with a stock NP208 adapter, which has some clocking built in. This put the T-case resting against the torsion bar. I ended up loosening the motor mounts, and re-drilling the stock cross member to pull the trans over 1/2" to clear the T-bar. This gave me a bit of driveline vibration, and the front driveshaft rubs the trans pan. Things get really tight with the offset trans pan, and the IFS. I'm running a shortened stock front driveshaft, so I could probably go with a smaller diameter and be OK.

These issues have helped to push me over the edge, so to speak. I plan to remove the torsion bars, and straighten out the drivetrain evanutally

I still need to get around to building a dust cover for the trans. Since the stock application had a passenger side starter, it won't fit with the starter on the other side.

Try looking into using a Scout driveshaft. They are about a 1" or 1.5" diameter shaft.

Also, what did you do for a starter?

Stock starter. I left the flex plate in place, and spaced back the torque converter.

Doesn't the starter bolt to the tranny on the 4l30? Or am I mistaken on that? I really haven't paid too much attention.

Got any pics of the bellhousing differences between the two trannys?

Here is the stock tranny

and the 700R4

The main difference is the cut-away bellhousing on the 700R4, which makes lining everything up much easier.

The starter bolts up to the engine, and no modification is necessary. I do need to build a dust cover to fit the cut-away bellhousing.

Thanks for the pics!

I saw your other thread that you linked to. I'm not currently a member over there so I never posted anything about it.

As for the starter, I guess I need to take a closer look at my truck. I glanced at it and it looked like the starter bolted to the transmission instead of the motor. That would mean that I could use the jeep a904 tranny I have in my truck without getting creative with the starter situation.

You can see in the pic of the stock tranny that there is a bulge in the bellhousing for the starter. On the 700R4, the starter falls into the cut away area. If your new trans has a full bellhousing, it could be an issue if the starter is not on the same side. Might have to do some modification.
