: 350 motor mounts (AA)
DCruiser138 05-07-2002, 10:23 PM --- im not too confident of my welding as far as holding a friken engine on the cruiser to make my own.....and i allways hear about the AA ones. anyone have a pic and price of these?? i checked aa's online site and its super lame. all they had was jeep mounts.
--- i saw some universal/generic ones in the PWA catalog my buddy has it said for a 350 into a toy land cruiser...theyr only like 65 buks! anyone know about these?
---also...if anyone out there makes them (spaceghost etc) hook it up!!!!
i bet you guys say mudrak, but ive been tryin to get some $$ back from a p/s pump mount i returned to him, and havent seen the $$ from it for months....cant get ahold of that guy to save my life:confused:
The Jerk 05-07-2002, 10:45 PM search you retard, there all kinds of pics of my mount and the aa one son here, jIMMy
ranger 05-08-2002, 07:07 AM Which motor, tranny, xfer case, are you running?
I had some mounts that I had laying around that were universal. These were used to put a chevy V-8 into vintage cars. I modified them to work in a cruiser. Just had to lengthen the ears on the upper engine mount. I think these are the one you saw in PAW. They work, but you gonna have to weld... Worked out excellent!:skull:
Bundok 05-08-2002, 07:39 AM The paw mounts are OK steel wise but the rubber part is cheezy. Mine fell apart pretty quick. I also did not like the weld, so I made another pass over them and I put some roll cage triangular braces in too. They are made by Transdapt. The AA ones have better rubber bushings but otherwise are very similar.
If you can't weld pick up the phone book and call a welder. Get some guy out there with a truck mounted welder and get it done correctly. If your going to do it yourself, don't feel too bad. You see tons of trucks running around with parakeet shit welds holding it all together...who cares, if the motor comes off a mount and yanks on the throttle cable there be more used parts for sale and maybe some organ donor parts too.
Learn to weld on something else, like a couple of dozen coupons. Not your motor mounts.

Medusa 05-08-2002, 07:45 AM The AA motor mounts are shown installed below. They cost just about $100, including hardware.

Nate Pall 05-08-2002, 08:02 AM Check out the Art morrison website. look for motor mounts there. They make all kinds of things like motor mounts and what not for race cas that can be used for other vehicles as well.
KrustyKruiser 05-08-2002, 09:08 AM Dustin:
We have half of an AA kit around - I will give them to Ian; the frame bracket (as pictured by Medusa) is easy to copy. The engine bracket is a little trickier, but with one to copy shopld be no big deal - all you need then are the rubber donuts/bolts, etc.
Andy
DCruiser138 05-08-2002, 09:47 AM thanks medusa...thats what i wanted.
and andy...thatd be cool! send em to cal rocs w/ ian and we're goin to s&k so we'll get some material to make em up!
btw...im prepared to weld....i just would rather make one of my buddies do one weld pass to mount em, rather than weld me up entire brakets! but ill get ian or someone to help me fab up some AA look a likes!
and one more thing...whats the mounmts on the actual motor look like? do i just get those from napa or sumthin? :rasta:
KrustyKruiser 05-08-2002, 09:48 AM THis is ian
Give me a call MO FO. As usual i gots some ideas for ya not to mention some details for tis weekend.
Ian-
Medusa 05-08-2002, 10:01 AM Sorry, Dustin, for not showing a picture of the other half of the AA assembly. I can't seem to find that picture:mad: As Andy and Ian point out, the AA mounts are not that difficult to copy. As you all know I make amost of my own stuff. In the AA kit, you get both the frame and the engine mounts, the hardware and the rubber donuts. For $100, I believe the AA parts are a good deal compared to making your own.
KrustyKruiser 05-08-2002, 10:23 AM Jack is right - the donuts cost about $60 IIRC, so in effect you are fabbing brackets that would cost you $40, but there again, every bit helps when you are on a budget. I have a feeling Ian is going to talk you into Chevy style motor mounts - more fabbing, but cheaper (and much better) motor mounts. Andy

make a plate mount for the engine similar to AA and a frame mount like Medusa, then use the ,left hand i believe, bellhousing rubber mount from a stock cruiser. Take a look at your bellhousing mount DCcruiser and you will see what I mean.
Man-A-Free sold me a pair for about 10 dollars. They were so cheap I could not believe the price... AA thinks the rubber is gold or something.
Also remember that you need enough support to hold the engine in place in a real 180 degree rollover not just going down the freeway.
Land Crusher 05-08-2002, 03:38 PM um I need new ruber mounts
any one have a pickture of the bell houseing
rubber mount.
or any other ideas instead of the aa ruber donuts.
thanks.
ouibus 05-08-2002, 11:28 PM The AA rubber donuts are so expensive becasue they are diamond dust impregnated for super resistance to those flying spermy corroders. Those little guys can be a bitch sometimes! This also helps in stabilizing your flux capacitor:flipoff2:
On a more serious note, I bought the universal MORE 350 motor mount plate and I am going to fab up some custom mounts that go to the frame rails. I have the AA and I think that they are pretty cheesy personally. If you want, I can go ahead and build the mounts that I was going to do later, now, and sell you the AA kit that I have. I will let it go for $55. HTH Thomas
1970cruiser 05-09-2002, 05:22 AM Get ahold of Bob Firestine; best money that I have ever spent on engine mounts. I do not have pics right now but will try to post some tonight. AA has nothing on this guy!
Medusa 05-09-2002, 08:09 AM Any idea who makes the mounts for Bob Firestine?
1970cruiser 05-09-2002, 10:00 AM I think his email address is bobfirestine@aol.com, or bobfirestine@yahoo.com? Use the search button, there have been pics posted on these mounts and lots of conversation.
oakley 05-09-2002, 09:02 PM I think the AA mounts are scary. I recently took my 350 out that was mounted with AA mounts and I found the one side was almost broken through -- the hole in the frame side as well as the bolt itself was starting to shear.
I am putting a 5.7 ltr Vortec in and wanted new mounts. I did a lot of research and found Bob Firestein. Absoultly a class act of a person and cruiser head. On top of that the mounts I got from him are of the best quality of product I have seen. Absolutly top notch. If you are putting a 350 in your cruiser you need these mounts. What bob sends you is actually the "wings" that bolt over and around the frame rail and then allow you to use stock Chevey mounts. extremely strong, easy, and effective. I was charged 140 for the pair and it was the best money I spent. Then the chevy mounts that bolt to the frame were 8.50 each side from napa. The side of the mount that bolts to the engine was still on the engine from the factory and then I bought bolts from napa.
If you want pics email me I would post but I can't.
Greg
IMHO, I don't care for the A/A mounts. If you weld a cradle in and build extensions off of that that will accomodate simple easy to find Chevy M-mounts, this will greatly strengthen the frame(rather than the weight of the engine trying to spread the rails apart) Also, when the time comes, it will make finding and purchasing a set of mounts cheap and easy. Oh yeah, and if you build it well, it will look really tech compared to kit stuff....You're going to be welding either way;)
