Got an easy one here, but I'm unsure of the answer. When using a Celica box does the pressure hose go to the port on the inboard or the outboard side.
The inboard one has an H (I assumed this was High) the outbard has a L ( I assumed this was for Low) but my first pump died catostrophically in the first 5 seconds, so I want to make sure I dont kill another pump.
Thanks!

Scwa.....i have one of the boxes in the garage....on mine with the pitman arm pointed forward and the box mounted on the inboard frame rail the high pressure line is on the outboard side.
Good luck!

Picture is worth a thousand words but just in case my high pressure line is on the outside port.

 EEK. i'm just at the beginning of doing this too...
i must say i hadn't considered THAT as one of the problems i might encounter...
as a side note for any of you kind souls willing to answer (:flipoff2: )
i was lurking in a wrecking yard the other day and saw a 1980 Celica with a steering box. now, since i've never actually SEEN (live) a steering box for one of these, can anyone confirm if there ever was any differences/changes or general wierdnesses possibly associated with these things?
in point: it didn't "look right" to me. the steering box was aproximately 1-2" away from the firewall, then a u-joint, then a pretty short looking shaft at a SEVERE angle, another u-joint, and to a rack and pinion type assembly. there was no engine in it, but there was no frame or body damage at all.
my first thought at seeing it was " the whole assembly has been pushed back about 3 feet from where it "should" be"
it was pissing rain so i didn't crawl around looking from underneath, but.....
i have looked at the 'box overhaul pics on AZ's site (cool, and thanks BTW dude:) ) but from those pics i can't get a good feel for what one would/should look like attached and oriented in the "proper" direction on the frame.
can anyone help or shed light on this?:)

The boxes did change at some point. The shape when looking down from the top is a give away. I think 78-81 was a safe bet.

Doh! I bet that's what killed my pump, I had the pressure hooked to the inboard side...won't do that again.
When I fired it up the steering oscilated enough to shake the WHOLE rig, then the front seal on the pump blew out and sent ps fluid into the pulley which then launched it everywhere. GOT RAGS?
AZ-Are your ports labeled like mine?
