I have been looking for a TJ for a little while now and was pretty set on getting a Sport or Sahara with low miles and then putting a lift and 35's under it for now.... This will pull double duty as my daily driver and wheelerfor a few years until I can buy a truck, then it will be a dedicated wheeler..
I ran across a 90 YJ Islander in my area for $800 though! So I got to thinking that if I bought the YJ, I could have a built YJ similar to the way I would build the TJ in a few years, but I could have the YJ that way now.....
Plans for the YJ would be SOA, 35's or 37's, LT1/700r4/241, D60's with OX Lockers, etc.... Everything would be new or freshly rebuilt so it would be dependable....

What would you do and why?

the yj for obvious reasons.. the price. you'll care less about a older vehicle also.. so you'll do more to it as far as mods/off roading/stunts/stupid bets... :D and shouldn't it be cheaper/easier to get flex and lift out of a leaf sprung vehicle?

Nice set-up... I wish I could find some info on Superlifts YJ!! That thing is sweet!!!! Well I dont think it is actually superlifts, but the guy who owns it works for them.....

Also, what are the 44044's? Are they a lifted YJ spring?

definately go YJ. you could have the thing built up with what you described AND coilovers at all four for the price of the TJ. it is a no brainer for me.

44044s are a Rancho 2.5" Waggoneer front lift spring (fits YJ also). They have an offset center-pin (by about 2") so by using them front and rear they add to the wheelbase (mine is around 99") and they flex like mad :D

Ah, that is cool to know! I see alot of talk about them, but never knew what they were since I was looking for a TJ.... Is there a similar spring but with a 1.5" lift? I may just run 35's and I think I can do that with a spring over. I may go 37's so the extra 1.5" would be nice, but 2.5" may be a little too much.......
