Hi,
With a 4.3 and no room to mount an a/c compressor, I am thinking of different ways to get air.
I have a 100 amp alternator. Can I use a 1000 watt power inverter with a small 110V air compressor? I see some compressors with 1-2 hp motors that draw 10-12 amps at 110V. Will this work, or am I gonna be burning up stuff.

You'll need one hell of a converter to power a compressor, they draw alot of amps...especially on start-up. A converter big enough to handle a 2HP motor will be huge and $$$$. I think something like a powertank would be much cheaper and easier

You would be better off using one of these:

I know the math works out in theory but you'll need a bigger inverter than that. Most inverters are not rated to produce 100% output for more than a few minutes. Bigger inverter means you'd need a heftier alt than 100A.

when you get to an inverter that large look for one iwth a hp rating on it. this will indicate it is capable of running that size motor and have adequate surge capacity for starting it up.
why bother converting? for the amount an inverter that big will cost you can have an industrial rated 12v compressor and gold plated hoses

not cheap, but a starter motor or winch motor and a York hooked together with a LOVEJOY Coupling may save you some dough!
