If I buy a truck that has been totaled by insurance, what does it take to get it back on the road again? an inspection? where do I go to get this done? I have no idea what steps to take here....

Every state is different. Here they inspect it but all they care is that the vin on the title and vin on the car match. :D Easy!! Here's your states DMV website: http://www.state.co.us/gov_dir/revenue_dir/MV_dir/mv.html ask them.

Of course CO will be diffrent then here in PA. Here is what I have done.

Last July I lowsided my 2001 Triumph Speed Triple. Any way I walked away with some road rash. The bike however hit the guard rail. Even though all damage was cosmitic, except the header and oil cooler. The bike was totaled. I bought it back.

When you buy it back, or buy something that has a salvage title, you do the same as if you bought a normal vehical. IE you go to a notary and do a title transfere. When you have the title back you can apply for the "R" title. In PA I had to have 4 pics of the bike before repairs, then 4 after. Then you get to fill out a form explaining what you fixed, where you got the parts, and copy of any reciepts. Then off to an inspection mech. In PA it was just like a normal state inspection, except he had to fill out a check list that was in the form for a "R" title. Then sent it in to the state, and I will let you know how it turns out in a couple more weeks.

That is exactly how you do it in PA, Most of my vehicles have been salvage vehicles and they have just recently required before pictures of the vehicle.

Just call a notary and see what it takes, some states are a lot easier than PA.

In California in order to get our s10 blazer licensed and in our name we had to let the dmv check the vin number, get a break and light inspection, and then a smog check. then pay any applicable fees that they wanted from us and off on our way.

In Hawaii, I didn't have DMV problems. I had to get inspected by my insurance company's adjuster before they would insure it.
