Maybe this is noob tech, but does a 2.8L have an externally balanced flywheel? I put new clutch in my S10, and now it vibrates like crazy. I was wondering if it had an external balance, and if I could have bolted up the flywheel in the wrong position?

The vibration seems to come from the motor/tranny, and gets worse with RPM. If I push in the clutch at speed, it seems to go away. Any ideas?

Flywheel won't be yer problem. But a crap rebuilt clutch assembly can and will do this. Particularly if the pressure plate was not balanced at the reman place. I never ran into balance problems with new assemblies.

It's a new clutch kit, not reman.

did you clean your flywheel with alcohol before reassembly? A little grease and dirt will mean slippage. By the way, I have a set of roller tip rockers and STD pistons for a GM 2.8 all still new in the box cheap.

There are 2 different balance 2.8L depending on the year. I think the split is 87/88. The newer one is 'neutral balance'.

Are you saying that the older ones are externally balanced? And if they are, is it possible to put the flywheel in at the wrong position? I thought I put it in the same way it came out.

1988 and earlier should all be counterweighted flywheels per: http://www.tacreationsusa.com/automatic_transmission.htm

Appears it is dowled at the crank flange. Should be only one way to install it. Tell u what. Tear the clutch assembly off it and fire it back up and see if the vibration is gone. My guess it will be if yer using a counterweighted flywheel and the engine is not the newer version that requires a zero balance flywheel.:smokin:
