Right now I'm planning to clock my Dana 300 in my 86 CJ7 and install a flat skid plate... However, the tranny mount will become the lowest point, and I'd like to move it. I've been browsing through some older posts and noticed that some crossmember mounts are bolted to the t-case instead.
Now... are there any differences or/and advantages/disadvantages for where the mount should be located? I would think the farther back the better for stability, but father back (on the t-case) means a lower hanging mount than that on a tranny.
So, here is my plan as of now... to compromise, I'm going to tap my adapter between my Dana 300 and my T176 tranny. Then, run some tubing as arms to each side of the frame rail. To absorb the shock, I'll probably use some poly spring bushings at the mounts on the frame rails.
Is there a better way to do this, or will this thing work out good? Suggestions would be great....
Thanx!
