: Lockers

I'm looking to lock the front and rear, and I'd like some advice.

I'd like to put ARB's in both pigs, but I've heard of steering issues with them up front. I could put in a Lockright or EZ locker in front and ARB the rear.
Thanks.

Your going to get flamed for that one! I would do the flaming but, I am a newbie too(as far as posts go).

Steering with all lockers is going to be bad compared to open diff. A selectable locker is the best for steering because you can turn it off if you need. An arb is a way better choice than a lockbox locker.

A few guys I run with have Lock rights in the front. I completely understand that steering will be affected. I'd like to hear some input regarding steering with a ARB versus locker. I'd rather not have to turn off the front ARB every time I have to crank the wheel.

You have a TJ? Vehicle specs and your expectations of the vehicle will give the ability to better guide you.

What size tires? stock drivetrain? stock axles?
What type of terrain? Is it a weekend warrior & DD?

ARB's are good if you have deep pockets and drive it daily. Can you install them yourself or will you have a shop do it?

What part of Buffalo are you in? I am Downtown.

Dont run a lunch box locker Period.

That being said, An arb will have a hard time unlockingwhen under load. Imagin if the suspention was all bound up, an ARB wont disconnect, A detroit will in most cases as long as theres no pressure on the drive lines.

Go with either a detroit or a ARB, I prefer detroits my self.

I have a lockright up front (Sorry Wheelingpiazza ;) ), and the steering is a little tighter, hardly noticable though. But if you're gonna cry about steering effort, go trade it in for a Civic :flipoff2:

WTF is this silly ARB junk:confused: :flipoff2:

Detroit is the only locker on the market, besides that custom sutff the Lincoln/Miller company produces:flipoff2:

Locked fronts turn great:D

Even better if you put a cutting brake on the front axle:flipoff2:

I have ARBs front and rear, and the reply is exactly correct. You have to turn off the ARB befor you try to turn, but that is no big deal.
There is peace of mind to know that your steering will not be affected on the hyway.

oh...hehehe...FWIW - I run with a rear detroit and open front. Thinking of getting a lockrite for the front tho'.

ARB's are just tooooo 'spensive for my pocketbook although I've only heard good things about 'em!

There are so many I don't even try any more MB....half the newbie posts I have flamed so many times that when it comes up again I just dont feel like typing anymore ;) :flipoff2:

My opinion on this one. I have a welded rear and lockrite front. My lockrite works fine. I wish it was a Detroit, but I opted for a cheaper locker and some nice hi steer  My opinion on ARB? They are great if you got the money, time and inclination. They arent for me. I have hubs and twin sticks plus a hydro assist, I dont need to turn the front end off. To me its just more stuff to break and have problems (compressors, tanks, air lines, fittings, blah blah) If I were building an axle without hubs (IE: D30) I might consider it. But then again, I would not build one of those ;) :D :flipoff2:
