I still have the bug up my a$$ to put an overdrive trannie in the Jeep. I hear that AEV conversions is using the AW4, but I was thinking more on the lines of the newer 42RE or 45RFE out of a 99+ Grand Cherokee. The 45RFe has a lower 1st gear and has two different gear sets for 2nd (upshift & Kickdown). I think they only put this trannie behind the new 4.7 v8, does this have same bolt pattern as 4.0, and these vehicles also run the 242 tcase, will I have bolt pattern/ shaft issues here as well? For ease the AW4 would probably be the simplest, but I never do anything the easy way. What control modules would I need to get from donor vehicle?

there was alot of talk about this swap about 2 months ago... do a search with AW4 as a subject and my name redruM as a user

no actual conclusions other than the AEV (400$ for their kit) but there was some useful information... i went ahead and rebuilt mine again (32RH) but would like to do the same swap you are talkin about

I've got the parts on the way. I hope it works out.
The auto parts are out of a 2001 xj and they are going into my 97 TJ.
