Ok you Fawkers I'm starting this thread now to call you guys out for next years RUN. This gives you guys about 9 and a half months to get your junk ready and save GAS money for the trip.

So who's in. It will be in September like every year:smokin:

I am a very tentative in. Long story short, being a new dispatcher, I'll most likely be finishing up training at that time. The good thing is I'll be able to take some vacation, however I'll be near the bottom of the seniority poll when it comes time to bid for vacation. I have a few time frames laid out in my mind for when I'd like to shoot for, and mid-September is one of them. If we could get some dates soon (I don't need them today, but by the end of December/beginning of Jan. would be great.) hopefully I can shoot for them. We do work a 4 days on/4 days off schedule, so even if I only get 4 days it's really 12 in a row I don't have to work. We'll see what happens, new job, so I can't be definite.

Hmmm.....With Binderbounds new truck, maybe I'll convince him to tow two trucks down???:flipoff2: I know looking for dates so early is a pain, but if I continue this dispatcher thing, schedules are planned yearly.

I hope to have Version 2.0 up and running by then. If so, I really want to do it again and see some new (or would they be old by then, :flipoff2: ) friends.

Now accepting donations to my Fuel for the 'Con fund.... 3600 miles of #2 aint cheap! :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Maybe..... just maybe, I might be able to squeeze in something else in the PNW region while I'm out that way. Or I could make Reuben happy and just go to the Boardwalk instead. :smokin:

Yeah, I caught that. Throw in a few 'bro' and its like I'm there.

Diesel smoke, your gonna have to round up a trailer big enough to haul both rigs. Or find a trailer big enough for HoS's rig too.

Mech, start saving your change. There is roughly 276 days till you roll out. Set aside a buck a day. That would cover a good portion of the fuel costs. That's what I did and it felt funny having a pocket full of money when I left home. Well, for 20 min anyway, till my clutch master cyl blew.

For that amount you could have had the rig shipped out and back.

I took the sawzall to the plow and followed it up with the angle grinder so there's roughly an inch of material removed.

I will have to cut the plate to remove the pinion. No problem though. I don't anticipate having to do it more than once or twice in the remainder of that axles life.

I still can't decide whether or not to cut & plate the bottom of my 14b or just trim the lip off like you did. I would like to cut & plate it, but I also don't want to fawk up my housing. These extra wide 72" daully rear ends like I'm using are not as easy for me to come by like the dime-a-dozen 67" housings.

I would just trim the lip off...Personally for all the extra effort I don't think the gain is worth it...(cut & plate).

Cut & plate was really needed when 38's were huge and 44" tsl's were rare on a rig...

Don't cut it --- you'll just screw it up and end up with a never ending leak, like mine....

When I get my hands on a new 14 bolt housing I am going to trim the lip and grind it as smooth as can be.

Just grind it. It works well enough. I'm sure you can allways get hung up on your diff no matter what tips and tricks you do.

BTW... I had an "extra wide" 14 bolt. I'm pretty sure they are out of a Van. Regular "mid size" is out of a starndard SRW truck, and the "narrow size" is actually the dually. Housings are the same in narrow and mid, it's just the hubs that are different.

x2 what HOS said.

my .02 If your doing a truss, like Josh, then a trim is fine, but I run leafs so I did not want to weaken the pumpkin, so I just fill it in with some small plate to make a ramp. (yes Ni rod) I find it slides over stuff, now I just need to make one for the reverse side as that where I get stuck backing up.

Here's what I found out during my quest for a fat-ass. There are really 3 types of 14 bolt housings and 3 types of hubs. Like you said, the Narrow and the Mid size use the same housing... ~63" with DRW hubs and ~67" SRW hubs. The Wide is out of '88 to '01 1-ton dually pickups and the housing is ~72" with the DRW hubs. The bastard child seems to be the van housing at ~70" wide. I'm not 100% positive, but I don't think it's housing is the same as any of the narrow, mid or wide. Chiscouter also did some comparing of van hubs and found that the WMS flange is located about 1/2" further inboard than a standard SRW hub.

Yea just keep your eyes peeled. I know where a set of 44044s are at the yard. what are the specs on them? The yard actually owes them to me but they never seem to have time to get them pulled. I finally got tired of getting blown off. Locker up front is my big priority. I can't find any locker options for the 70 out back. How many spline is it, you should be able to get a detroit locker. You still have that power lock rear? Those dont bias as well with the 4t's, as with smaller tires.

I'm out. Got the job coaching the local high school varsity football team. I'm excited about that but bummed about wheeling. Hopefully I'll have the 4 bt 4l80 combo installed by next year. Hey is there any way to use the adapter and output shaft off my chevy turbo 400 / jeep dana 20 combo and move it to the 4l80?

Man this really sucks, I just replaced my engine earlier this summer after spinning a rod bearing. This past Sat. I noticed the oil is Milky:mad3: I drove it around for a while and even changed the oil, but after a trip to Prairie City it's Milky. Hopefully it's just a head gasket. The main issue is balancing family time to get it fixed. Traveled way to much for work this year and that has cut into Scout time big.
I talked with Jeff @ IHONLYNORTH when I spun the rod bearing and he is really booked up this summer and would have more time later in the year to rebuild an engine for me. That was fine as my spare engine was going to hold me over. :shaking: Time to get busy and get this figured out fast.

Rock Tractor, myself, Brian, Chris, Ed and Dennis (4 rigs) came out Sunday afternoon about 4:00 PM. That's just a guess because we were having 'burgers at Robbs around 5:00 PM. Mike and Jeff left early enough to miss out on the $375 ticket the Rangers gave us for sitting around a cold fire pit. They were going to give everyone a ticket but Ed's passenger, Dennis stepped up and took one for the group.

I'm the only one that had any real problems that I needed help fixing, Ed took care of all his issues quickly and un assisted.

Friday - From Loon Lake to Buck Island Lake - tore the drivers side, rear spring pack front hanger off the frame. Pulled the spring out and Rock Tractor welded it all up.

Hot engine all 3 days - still have to figure that one out.

That mini starter I got from IHOnly North worked flawlessly - even under extreme conditions

Sat - Buck Island Lake to Rubicon Springs and back to Buck Island. Going down to the 'springs - no problems, coming up the Big Sluice - exploded the front drivers side hub, replaced it and continued in about a half an hour. Rock Tractor had to tow me through that deep section where it makes the hard right (left going down). Pulling into camp Jeff noticed my inside drivers wheel was bent out about 3 inches. Tried to hammer it back into shape but it wasn't holding air so the spare went on.

Sun - Buck Island to Loon - High engine temps so I was keeping the RPM's up around 1500 - 2200 which uses a lot of gas. As my gas tank emptied, crap started clogging my fuel filter causing the engine to starve and die. Blowing air back into the tank has solved the problem for now.

Unfortunately, not a single picture taken. Hopefully some one got a picture of Abe's 19" trout. Wait a minute, I took a couple of Rock Tractor and Polar on his camera. Maybe he'll post them later.

Kudos to Brian for a well built Scout - not a single problem

That sucks about the ticket . I would have at least split the fine with Ed's friend(sorry I forget your name) since I lit the fire Friday night.:mad3:

Sorry we booked out of there early. My body was(and still is) on fire. Thats what I get for running my white ass hairy body around without wearing a shirt on Saturday. I literally look like a lobster. Aside from that Mike was ancy to get going as he wanted to drive home lastnight(and did).

As for damage I managed to scrape my remaining three fender flares. My fuel injection setup has an idleing problem so it made it hard to have full control and wouldn't "crawl" very low. Otherwise no problems.

Try to get what pics I got up soon.
