I'm fabbing some nerf bars, using a friends HTP 140 amp mig. This POS only has a 20% duty cycle @ 140 amps. I can only weld about 1.5", then the feed kicks off. My question is for you guys using the Millermatic 175, how long can you weld at ~140 amps?
I use one at work and have never had it stop on me.

I have one. I just weld as long as I feel like it. It has never kicked off or shown any sign of strain. I have made several sets of rock sliders from 3/16" and 1/4" rectangular tube and plate at slightly above the recomended wire speed for the thickness. I'm pretty sure is over 140amps, 80 on a max scale of 90.

Thanks, now I know what to buy. I tried a Millermatic 135, it puts the HTP to shame, I'm getting the 175.

Miller welders are great. When I was deciding to buy a welder, I didn't even consider other brands because I knew I'd want a Miller. I ended up with a Millermatic 210. I just need to get my house wired for 220 and I'm ready to do some damage...

Since you've already decided on a Miller 175 I guess I'm a little late to the party. But, I'll chime in anyway. I have the 175 and it is sweet. No regrets. I think it (or the Hobart) is the perfect machine for 4x4 fabrication in a home shop. IMO, the value per $$$ is about as good as it gets.

I've got the Miller 175 and the spec says that at 140amps your only looking at about a 28% duty cycle. What they heck are you making these things out of that you are welding at 140 amps???
I'm currenty building a set of nerfs for my rig and I'm using .120 tube and I'm running at about 85 amps...good penetration and the welds look good.

I'm welding .187 to .250 . It's got 6 settings, I've got it set on high and I'm getting fair penetration, using .030 wire.

Can you find a better deal than $645 with free shipping from www.cyberweld.com ?

welders-direct is about $10 cheaper. If you want a cart also then go with Cyberweld as their cart is only like $30 vs $50 from welders-direct. I purchased mine from Cyberweld and it was here in 7 days, no hassel, no muss, no fuss. I would buy from them again.
