What do you guys think of doing a Saginaw conversion on my D110? I want to run hydraulic assist, and am skeptical about using the LR steering box for this purpose (there is a place in west Texas that will tap the box). Anyone done the conversion (I think Slade is doing it on his 147?). Any thoughts on mounting brackets and such? Which model of steering box to use, etc, etc?
Thanks for the input,
Bill R.
ps. The D90 goes in the garage as a whole vehicle for the last time next week. Many parts for sale in the near future!

Hey Billster,
Slade *did* it on his 145. :flipoff2:
hehe.
the Scout II box from any year will work. the only differences were the spline count, and you can get u-j's that will fit both splines easily from any competent race shop.
The arm will need to be re-reamed for the LR tie-rod end taper, and could probably be done at the same time the hole for the ram-assist is done.
The box is practically the perfect size to fit where the stock box went, the only thing that needs re-working is the panhard rod mount.
Timm fabbed one up for me but took him 2 days to figure it out. Now that he has the legwork done, and a jig of the mount, he's planning on making brackets that will bolt both the box and the redesigned mount in place.
He is thinking of using the hydro-assist from a Corvette (I think), in conjunction with the Saginaw box as a less-expensive version of the rock-ram. Dunno if it'll work, he's still in the 'dreaming about it' stage. But, if history is our guide it'll probably work pretty well.
I have pics of it I can send/post/whatever.
Let's see some pics of that 110!!!
Michael
PS If you are even considering wheeling that 110 get rid of the LR box. I feel bad you never drove the Serious One. If you had you would have been thinking about the Saginaw conversion last October. When you going to be in Moab next? I'm going to OTR as a vendor I think this year. I have a 'soft' commitment to Rachel.

I thought it would sound a tad better than:
"I have a soft commitment to Bill"
-OR-
"I have a soft commitment to Rachel, but it's getting harder"
-OR-
whatever Merv might have thought up.
IOW....I am seriously considering attending as a vendor, but there are a lot of things up in the air right now and I can't commit definitely to anything (other than getting my damn bus finished)
