Can it be done? If so, how? I've looked at the holley and edelbrock kits and didn't see any aplications for the 390. Anyone know alot on the subject?

I know you will not be able to use the Holley 4Di on a 390. There was never a dist. that had the Hal effect sensor in it. However I don't see why you would not be able to use their other setups. A friend of mine has the one with the 4/6 dials on it on his 396, and it came off a 440. All you need a 4 bbl intake to use this setup, since it doesn't hook into the ing. system.

i dont know if it helps but i am running the holley2d 670 cfm tbi unit on the 460 i swapped in. at first i was afraid it wouldnt be able to keep up with the motor and cam and all but its running great. its bolted to a edelbrock manifold. this 2d projection unit ran rich on the smaller 351 but seems to be the ticket for the 460, i am happy and it bolts on like a carb so i would think youd be good to go with the 390.

Anything can be done, its a matter of money though. I found a company that will mill your original stock intake manifold and install fuel rails, with injectors and computer to monitor all this for any engine. They take all the factors in engine size displacement, purpose and what not and map out a fuel delivery "map" for your motor. Its really cool, but its like 4 grand.

I don't see the advantage over a carb in my opinion, well ok there is, but its not worth 4 grand. At least not to me. I've had great success with carbs, it just takes time and some patience. I'll see if i can find them again, that company i'm pretty sure was in Florida. If i recall, they specialized in ford big blocks. They say leaving the stock intake manifold on is fine for power because only air flows through it, not fuel/air mix. Still though, a stock 390 intake manifold is a fine boat anchor weighing in at like 90 pounds. I'd put aluminum on just to save some weight.

You can also check out the Howell TBI setup. www.howell-efi.com
If you decide to call them you will want to talk to Troy for your technical questions. The TBI is basically just a GM TBI setup but Troy will burn a custom chip for the 'puter. I am running this setup on my rig and am satisfied with it's trail performance. Keep in mind though that there are limitations on how many engine mods this system will support. The closer to stock the better.

looks like the Holley kit should work..........although it's only rated at 275hp? what's up with that? think my 390 will overload it?

i thought my 460 would overload it especially with the cam, but it seems to be working great. the projection units run a little on the rich side (at least on the 351w i had it on first) so i think those numbers are very conservative and it isnt running rich on the 460 its running good. be warned though they sometimes take alot of tuning, other times they are just quick and easy, but you will get it if you take your time. im still fine tuning it on the 460 as i have only had it in there for about a week. also it is a 670 cfm unit and how much more cfms would you really run with a carb, prolly not much more

Try this site too,I don't see the 390 listed but they might be able to machine you something special! They are intake adapters so you can run a 5.0 EFI manifold ,I'm thinking about trying it out on my 351 cleveland:D
